![]() Hey people. I am using Panther 3.3 and downloaded LW more than 100 times. Everytime I click the icon once installed, nothing happens. I am connected and downloaded LW from different websites. I made sure to remove all LW files before installing the software again. But the problem remains the same. Nothing happens. I read many answers on the forum of similar problems and have found nothing that will work for me. Has someone managed to fix this problem? I would really like to know. Thanx to anyone who can help. |

![]() which icon are you clicking? Try double-clicking the icon inside the LimeWire folder that's installed in your Applications folder. LW will often take a minute or so to load everything. Clearing the browser cache (Safari?) prevent an already downloaded copy being used again. |

![]() Thanx Stief for your prompt answer. I clicked twice the icon in the folder, not the alias or the one in the dock. Also, I downloaded LW in Explorer. I emptied the cache before each download. I probably left alone LW a good 5 minutes after clicking the icon and nothing happened. Do you have another solution? Please let me know... |

![]() Not really, if you already tried the suggestions posted earlier in the other threads before yours. I wonder though, if all the LW pieces were removed. Did you try the alternate installer Jens-Uwe Mager makes available? http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/LimeWire.html Last edited by stief; April 6th, 2004 at 06:41 AM. |

![]() Hey Stief, Yep I tried it. I even took from a friend's computer a copy of his Limewire (which works on his CPU) and it didn't work on mine. Same problem: Click the icon (while connected to Yahoo DSL) and nothing happens. Do you think it is because of the connection? Maybe the software does not recognize the connection. I'm new on MAC OSX, is there something I am doing wrong. My regular internet works fine. Any ideas? |

![]() Well--back to basics. If you want a fresh start: Remove all traces of limewire from your system (use Finder's Find command to search everywhere for items containing "lime"). Then, shutdown your machine and restart in Safe Boot mode by holding down the shift key right after the startup sound (you can let go once you see the grey spinning cog). This will automatically check (and fix most) any system problems (links to the details are here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=24092) Run the Disk Utility to repair permissions Run Software update (a new security update came out today) Repeat the whole mess again, then do a regular restart. You now have an optimized system. Download a new copy of Limewire (3.8.10 is now available). Try again. What happens now? |

![]() Ok, stief, I'm having the same problem. Here's what's happened to date... I deleted LW from my 10.3 Powerbook. Then, installed it again. When I installed and started it up, it didn't give me anything. So I did everything you listed. Now, when I load it up, it starts not connected. When I connect, I get the following bug report, and it can't even connect to the bug server. It used to work before I uninstalled it the first time. ![]() Hi CK. Don't worry about the bug server--it's been timing out lots recently, and most of the gnutella developers have been discussing the strain on the gwebcache system (gives you the initial list of hosts for connections). Patience is needed here. Still, if you can get a friend who has good connections to mail you a copy of the "gnutella.net" file, maybe you can use it to replace yours. Search for "gnutella.net" to see where the LimeWire preferences are stored. LW needs a list of known good hosts for initial startup, so if LW can't retrieve one, maybe a friend can help. Are you using a broadband connection (cable or DSL)? If Modem, connections can be flaky, so set the LW prefs to manually connect at startup. |

![]() Hey Stief, thanks for the help. I've got college ethernet, so, whatever speed (I never know if that's cable or T1. I think T1). I'm studying abroad. Back home, none of my friends use P2P, they use the network to share. Couple thousand kids on the same network removes the need of P2P. So, I'm using LimeWire for the first time. I found a gnutella.net when I searched. It's got a lot of web addresses. 20 or so. I don't want to post them, because I wonder if it's OK. I really don't know if it's a connection thing. I think there's something wrong with the program or my OS configs, but I haven't changed the configs and the program USED to work. It used to start up in seconds, now, it takes five minutes to start up. It takes 5 minutes to even get to the point where there is the little 3 inch by 3 inch window that shows the logo and has "loading preferences" and all those other loading messages that display before the program window loads. Again, thanks for all the help. |
