Mac OSX Problems with installing LimeWire or WireShare for Mac OSX users |

another crash on startup I'm on OS X 10.3 or whatever the latest version of Panther is. I've been using the newest version of limewire for a few weeks now. Today I went to start it up and every time it crashes. I did the whole safe start-up (holding shift key down), erased anything Limewire, repaired permissions, and re-downloaded Limewire again. Still, the almighty crash. I liked the last version of Limewire. Can I get that again. The new version is less convenient. The interface is confusing and I don't like that the search box disappears once you've searched for something. Then you have to go back a page to search again. Bring back the old interface. |

Too many files in your incomplete folder? 4.0.5 fixed some problems with earlier versions http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml older versions (cringe) are here http://www3.limewire.com/download/ If you've found a new bug, did you send it in? |

what is it? I only had two files in my incomplete folder, so it can't be that. And for whatever reason, I can't install anything but that damn 4.0.5 that doesn't work. Bah. I'm frustrated, and stuck inside with a lame foot while everyone else is waterskiing. I'm not happy right now. |

Sorry to hear about your foot Well, sounds like time for a clean install. btw--"Install LimeWire.pkg" is probably what is stopping installing an older version. Panther's Find won't look in the Library unless told, so you'll have to set up the find like in the screenshot. Delete all the old limewire stuff (including the incomplete folder) and try 4.0.5 again--that should fix your problem. You will have to reset all your preferences, but this is probably a good thing. |

Thanks for your kind reply. Like my grandma always said, "a little kindness goes a long way." Unfortunately, I did everything you said, and still.....nothing. I'm a big fan of Limewire. I'm usually a big fan of Macintosh. But why is this happening? I'm a good person. I do good things. I'll share my cupcakes if asked. So why??????? |

LOL! (I mean, ahem--yes . . . well . . . .) No idea without more info, like the crash report (Applications/Utilities/Console). Easiest way to see if it's a user prefs problem is to create a new Admin user and install in that account. If that crashes too, then it's not something in your usual user's home folder (I'd reinstall java in that case). Still, I just saw that the latest CVS build is updated, thanks to jum. It uses a different installer and includes some of the latest (not fully tested) changes: try http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/LimeWire.html I'm off to give it a try. Don't hurt your other foot |

Okay. I may have to return to this issue tomorrow. While everyone else was out on the boat basking in the sunshine and revelling in horsepower, I decided to make myself feel better with the power of Tarantino. An hour into Pulp Fiction and a couple gimlets I really don't care about Limewire right now. In the morning, of course I will. You're my almost hero. |

I tried the new download. Same crash on startup. I'll include the console log. Maybe you can make some sense out of that. In the meantime I'll try creating a new administrator and see what happens. How do I reinstall java if I have to? I'm not geek enough to know about all of this stuff. Though I aspire to be more geek. Geeks are cool. 2004-06-12 20:07:28.241 CrashSubmitter[356] Crash report submitted! no proxy Updating ... com.twii.ticker.applet.DataRetriever@671f95.suspend(): java.lang.InterruptedException: sleep interrupted Updating ... 2004-06-13 10:33:13.282 Mail[419] Exception raised during posting of notification. Well, now I'm connected (cross fingers). So what's the problem with my original administrator account if the new one works and the old one doesn't? Can I fix it or do I have to keep connecting to Limewire using the new one? Thanks for all the help, by the way. |
