(To kill 2 birds with one stone.) Also can you tell us about your connection setup? Just in case of potential issues: What brand name & model number of modem & router do you use? Do you use a firewall? Are you connecting from work/home? Some dsl/adsl modems/routers use NAT (as does Apple's airport) which blocks most incoming ports in a similar fashion to a firewall. If you use such a modem we can forward a port for it. A quick check is if you visit this site (ignore the text in the red box) & tell us what it says in the grey box underneath 'The Applet': All I need to know is what's probably on the 4rth line & it says about NAT (eg: It would appear that your machine does use NAT.) [/B]
I am using cogeco cable high speed internet..how would i check the model number on my modem? that all came with the computer.
The router is a RCA digital|BROADBAND the model number is dcm305.

no firewalls, i checked.
i am connecting from home.
im not sure what website you are referring to, however i do have another filesharing program (acquisition) and i dont have this problem with that program. i dont know if that helps any.

i'll try the other ideas now! thanks a bunch for the quick reply, im really stoked on trying out limewire. Moreso now that's i've been putting such an effort into just opening it up! haha.

edit:
-i dont remember installing mac os...i think my mom might of done it, or it came installed.

-that's how i updated java, so i don't think that's the problem...

LW crahing on Mac OS

I'm runing Mac OS X 10.3.8.
My problems began when I wanted to update LW.
I made the mistake of dumping the old LW app including my copy of the installing software.
I downloaded the new version and installed.
All I got was a bouncing and crashing LW.
Apparently what I was doing was loading an UPDATE. It even said as much on the installer button.
Without an application to update, LW would just crash.
The LW website only offered the update, same with downloads.com.
Very frustrating!

Following what I found on these boards,
the advice that worked was installing an older version of LW.
I found it at this URL:
http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/backup/
I got:
LimeWireOSX.dmg 30-Jul-2004 12:12 4.7M
It wouldn't let me install beacuse it detected LW already installed. (I got (null) warnings.)
I trashed everything LW on my hard drive after doing a Command-F search.
I did the install of the above download.
IT'S WORKING GREAT!!
THANKS EVERYBODY!!!:)

They are not updaters. They are only refered to updates. They are in fact the main program. If problems installing then follow the above suggestions or go to OSX>Library>Receipts folder & view in list mode. Then delete any old LW versions listed. Then try to install. This same principle also applies to the Standalone Java installer. Sometimes the OS says it's already up to date ... so you dump the Java from the receipts folder.

Can't launch LW

I'm pretty sure I did those steps of dumping reciepts. And still I crashed installing the latest version.
All I can say is by dumping everything I could fiind of LW, then installing the older version mentioned, it worked.

OK. Not sure the reason for your issue. But sometimes having the receipts package of the same file & version of file will stop installation. As you mentioned a Null error.

Reinstalling Java or OS Combo often fixes the bouncing in dock problem.
