Hi,

I have recently moved back to a mac after having to work with a PC for a year. I definately remeber limewire working on my previous mac, but I have had no joy this time.

Symptoms:
Connects fine on start up, searches fine for files, any chosen for download go at a rate of between 0 - 1 KB/s, yawn, then I get a message saying that 'limewire detects no active internet connection and that I have a firewall blocking this'.

I have followed limewire's instructions to add 'limewire' onto the list of allowed programs on the firewall, as it was not listed on my drop down list, I have added the port settings manually (as per advised on another thread).

This has made no difference.

I use the internet at home and use a D-link wireless router on the TalkTalk ISP.

Any ideas on what's going wrong for me? I would be SOOOOOO grateful.

Well there's a small problem there for a start. I likewise use a D-Link & unfortunately D-Link don't use UPnP (universal plug & play) which opens ports when a program with upnp abilities asks for such a one to be opened. Thus you'll need to do it manually. Without knowing which D-Link model you're using I can't point you to specific instructions.

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? If false then my suspicions are probably correct. False means there's something partially blocking incoming. D-Link use NAT firewalls.

The steps are:
1. Set up a Static ip (must do this correctly otherwise the entire process won't work.) to create a static ip for OSX see either or both http://www.sonic.net/support/ss/mac/osx_staticip/ & the link in point 3 which has instructions on page 2 I think.

2. Forward (open) a port such as port 6346. http://portforward.com/routers.htm (bottom left column on page.)

3. Within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.

If your mac & pc are networked, then you can only port forward one port per computer. You'd need to port forward a different port for the 2nd computer "if & only if" you wanted to use LW on both.

Also keep in mind, some users such as Shareaza (RAZA) are reknown for only offering small speeds. Control-click the top of the search results column bar or/& the downld window column bar & choose show Vendor/version & this will show which gnutella program you're downlding from.

Yes, the answer was flase as you suspected! Re your latter comments, I managed to create a static IP address, complete the port forwarding for my wireless router and also change the settings on limewire to listen to the correct port .. all as per your instructions.

I am wondering if the DNS servers that I entered should have been specific to LimeWire instead of the sonic thing? Also, I had to use the airport settings to adjust as I connect wirelessley.

Limewire is now not showing a firewall detected as it did before, so something has obviously gone right.

Are you able to help further?
