Default Uninstall

Not sure I want ti run limewire yet. It looks OK, I guess, but I want to try some others as well.

It installed fine, but how do I UN install it?
It asked for my root password on install, so it's obviously put stuff in root areas. without an Uninstall script how can I be sure everything is gone?

Welcome to the forums BAzz!

most installers for Mac OS 10 ask for your root password for them to install programs. I was told that you should just drag the LimeWire folder in your Applications folder to the trash and empty it. You could also search your hard drive for "LimeWire" and see what it finds and delete everything you think that has to do with LimeWire. I hope this helps.

spearson is on the spot! The only thing you need to do with OSX is send the LW folder to the Trash. The only other item it installs during the installation process is the Prefs folder which can be found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire & dump the entire folder.

Hope you give LW a decent chance! Optimising it can make a world of difference:

Some hints: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

just a minor correction--LW does not ask for a "root" password (most OS X users don't even have that one set up).

The installer asks for an "admin" password, as required by the OS X Apple installer.

btw--Apple also creates a "receipt" for installed programs. You can also delete the file called 'Install LimeWire.pkg' in the Library/Receipts

Question running new limewire

I, too, just dwnlded new lw onto Mac OS 10.3.7, pb g4. I looked up other threads on problems, did a safe shutdown, repaired permissions, looked for Install Limewire pkg. in receipts, but it wasn't there? Cannot get lw to open at all. The old one, 4.0, I think, had quit on me after running a long time, but I think it quit when I upgraded system to 10.3.7. Anyone got anymore ideas, cause I haven't a clue what now.

the receipt file is in the main Library (not the Library in the Home folder).

Repairing permissions (using Disk Utility) and reinstalling java might work, but first try double-clicking the LimeWire icon from the Applications folder in case the alias icon on the desktop or dock is broken.

How about the icon in the System Preference... how to remove it. because when the installer finished at the first time, it put an icon in the system preference.

Thank you 4 your attention.
