Upgraded to Tiger and now Limewire wont open.

If anyone can help that would be great.

I recently upgrared from 10.3.9 to 10.4.2 but now limewire cant even open. Everyting else is working just fine except limewire. I've downloaded and reinstalled it twice but i get the same thing. It opens in the dock and then closes immediatly.

I dont understand why. Can anyone help me?

Thx inadvanced.

I would recommend reinstalling Java for Tiger. Get the "Offline" installer here Java 1.4.2 for Tiger (click on link)

If it won't let you install it, Double-click the harddrive icon, open the Library, open the Receipts folder, then find the file: Java1.4.2.pkg (or similar), delete it and try again.
I don't use Tiger & so am not totally sure about the name of the file or other small differences. It should be comparable to Panther I guess.

Hi

I don't know if this is the same problem or not...

I'm on Tiger...I'm using an oldish version of Limewire (2.6 I think) and don't seem to be able to update to any newer version (2.10 now?)

I can download the file and get the disk image but when I double click on that nothing happens

I've tried the java update mentioned above but still no change

can anyone help?

cheers
taro

For some odd reason, I've noticed a no. of Tiger users have had problems with dmg files. I can send you a copy of the installer in SIT format which would mean no dmg, just uncompressing the archive using StuffIt Expander & then double-clicking the installer.

I can't believe you're using version 2. That's not only bad for the gnutella network but I'm surprised it even works now (many gnutella program clients will automatically block out the earlier versions!)

Hi, sorry my typo, version 4.6 not 2.6!! It's anything beyond v2.6 I can't get to install...like I said it downloads OK but won't then do anyhing when I double click...

Oh I misunderstood your post. I thought you couldn't open the dmg file. So you can't open the program after installing? And re-installing the Java "Offline" version didn't help? Or if you didn't try that, then do it. Get the java from the above link & re-install it.

Otherwise try deleting LW's preferences whilst LW is CLOSED which are found here:

/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

OR do you mean you double-click the installer & nothing happens?
If that's the case then try one of Jum's nightly builds: http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/
BTW his builds are CVS beta builds. No installation necessary, just drag & drop the program to your HDD from the dmg file.

BTW LW 4.6 had security issues (there is a very remote chance someone could access files from outside your shared folders -> other areas of your computer. LW 4.8.1 fixed that issue!)
