Limewire detects a firewall-won't let me download files I have installed the latest LimeWire and it has detedted that threre is a firewall and will not let me download files. I am using a Mac with Tiger. I turned off the firewall in my system and it still says that there is a firewall. Anyone know the trick on how to solve this problem? Thank you. |
Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: OS 10.4.1) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. What was your previous version of LW? 10. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. |
I found the error I needed to have the firewall on with file sharing on as well. Thank you for your interest and your help! |

The problem shouldn't be the router as Linksys use UPnP which allows LW to communicate directly with the router & open a port. It looks like the firewall settings. I don't use Tiger as I mentioned to you in an earlier post/thread. So I don't know what the differences are with the firewall settings. For Panther it's as this post suggests: Adding LW to OSX Firewall clearance (click on link) BTW if this version isn't working for you, perhaps a step back until the next version comes out. I don't have 4.9.29 but I have LimeWireOSX 4.9.30. You could always try Jum's build to see if it makes any difference here Check out the nightly builds! BTW did you try deleting LW's preferences found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire LW must be closed whilst you do this. |
Tried other build Same result. Firewall detected and it does not work anymore. |
Do you have the earlier version then? Did you try deleting your LW preferences? |
Unfortunately, my old version had been deleted I have no archive of the earlier version and, yes, I did delete the preferences again. |
