LW freezzz

I am currently running LW 4.10 on my mac with OS X. 10.3.9 have never had LW runing smoothly. It starts up fine then after about 2 or so min it starts to start/stop.execution of Commands start to slow down till it wont work at all and it freezes up. What the hell is going on?? My hard drive is quite full too. can anyone give me some solid advice how to fix this problem. thanks
