Default Anyone have problems with audio on avi files downloaded from Limewire?

I have suddenly discovered that if I download avi files, i can see the whole thing, but have no audio. I bought Quicktime Pro 7 in the hope that this would solve it, but it hasn't. Am new to this and stuck for ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It seems to be OK in files ending in extension mpg. Thanks

Try using vcl player, or mplayer, and be careful before updating quick time via software update, as new quick time versions are not always healthy for Limewire

Default No Audio

Dear Only A Hobo,

Many thanks for your reply! Forgive me but I should have said that I am on a Mac, OSX 10.2 (about to go up to Tiger). I did try to install the first player you mentioned, the vlc, but it seems to only want to work with OS.9 and I've been looking at the MPlayer, but it seems v complicated to me and possibly only works with Windows.

Sorry to be a pain, but any other ideas? It's just the audio I'm missing.

Many thanks

VLC doesn't work in OS 9. Perhaps you need to redownld it using Safari instead of any other browser. Go here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html & then drag & drop the program to your applications folder after the dmg file opens.

MPlayer has been a little buggy with some versions.

BTW after installing any new program, you should repair permissions after a Safe boot. ie: Restart the computer whilst holding down the SHIFT key until you see the message saying Safe Booting. Then once open, go to Utilities folder & open Disk Utility. Repair permissions. Then reboot normally.

Default Audio Problems

Thanks, great, am re-downloading now. The 2 files I have downloaded but cannot hear have these different details:

1) DVDSCR-XviD-

2) Just says avi

Some other files have said HDTV.XviD-LOL

Does any of that mean anything to you?
