Default Stuffit doesn't work, tried all updates

OK, i've been reading the "install help" forum now for the past two hours - tried safari, netscape and explorer to download the latest LW, no dice. I've reinstalled Quicktime 7.0.1 from 7.0.4 - and i've fixed the Java issue - what the heck could be left?!??!?!

It downloads fine, once it's on the desktop and i double click, a stuffit error window shows up and says something about "error, stuffit tried to open a file, but there was a folder where the file should be".... something like that.

I'm on a G4, with OSX 10.3.9 - anyone? Thanks.

Ah--stuffit shouldn't be used to open .dmg files.

Drag the .dmg onto Disk Utility (in your system folder)

Better yet, Get Info on the .dmg file (command-I), and change the "Open with" option from stuffit to Disk Utility. If "Disk Image Mounter" is an option, choose that.

Make Disk Utility the default, and all should be well for the future too

OK, i'll try to be a little clearer....

The file in which you were talking about "limewireOSX.dmg" is set to open using DiskImageMoutner.

BUT, when i double click on that - it opens up the Limewire window that has the "lime" and asks you to double click to start the install.
Once i do that, i have a stuffit expander messege saying " there was an error trying to open limewire package. A folder was specifed when a file was requested."

That's as far as I get.... Anymore help?
Thanks....

If all else fails, drag & drop the dmg file onto the Disky copy program icon. Be that within the dock or within the utilities' app's folder.

The steps are:
1. Downld using Safari.

2. If safari doesn't use disk copy as the defalt program to open dmg files then your stuffit preferences need to be changed!!!! Otherwise this issue will forever cause you headaches!!!
(Do NOT allow stuffit to be your default to open dmg files. Disk copy is designed specifically for this purpose!)

3. After downlding, then drag & drop the dmg file onto disk copy which is the safest way to do it!
