Default Download problems with Safari and Mozilla

OS: MacOS X 10.2.8
Safari 1.0.3
Mozilla 1.7.12

Download from Limewire site fails after about 120K is downloaded. Message says "uncompressing" then "Mounting failed" after the 120K is downloaded. Happens with Safari and Mozilla.

This does NOT happen after I try to download Limewire Basic Mac Classic but I'm not interested in Mac Classic.

I have no problems downloading other .dmg files.

Check the suggestions here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...light=Terminal

BTW if you're using Jaguar, then you should update your Java if you haven't already.

>Don't download dmg files using internet Explorer. Most advised is to use >Safari. Update your Safari. Open Disk Copy & go to preferences & turn >verification off. And drag & drop the downlded file onto Disk Copy

I've now tried this onmy wife's and son's machines both of which have current Safari - same error.

I tried the relevant suggestions - no good

>curl -L -o LimeWire.dmg "http://www.limewire.com/LimeWireSoftOSX"

No success.

Any other options?

Alternatives to downld are to recommend a different Browser (FireFox, Mozilla, OmniWeb, Camino). Go to www.firefox.com, download FireFox and try it again. I'm not sure about your version of Safari. I do know one of the early Safari versions had some problems. But I guess you can't update it or can you? I use Safari 2.0.3 in Tiger. Make sure you get your LW from here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

But in any case, the file you downlded using the Terminal which ends up in your main level User Account folder, should be fine. I would recommend drag & drop LW.dmg onto Disk Copy & not double-click the file. Also, before you do this, go to Disk Copy's preferences & disable verification option (tick Ignore invalid checksums, & uncheck Verify Checksums.)

If this still doesn't work, then send me your email address in a pm & I'll post the program to you as a sit file without the dmg. Press the pm button directly below my post.

BTW I have no problems using either netscape or safari to downld dmg files. Perhaps you need to clear your cache also. 120K means it's an incomplete downld. Check the size of the file you downlded via the terminal. It gives a downlded file but you need to manually open the dmg.
