Question help needed: Clearing searches

I have Limwire version 4.10.9 for MAC OSX. How do I clear a search and it's contents when I am done with it? I can stop the searches and download but is there anyway to get rid of it when I'm done? I had limewire for Mac several years ago and I remember there being a way to get rid of searches, but now I can't figure it out. Also, the name of each search doesn't appear at the top of the colum, is there any way to fix that?

Any help is apprecciated.

Thank You,
alice

The name of each search is within the search tab. If you have several search tabs up then select the arrow to the right to select the next or previous set of search tabs.

To close search tabs, click on the red cross on the left of the search tab. Alternatively, control-click the search tab & choose close search.

To clear search from memory, you have that option from the search box window, here Search box autocomplete options. Else, go to LW's preferences, View>Autocomplete & uncheck this option.

Thank you very much for the reply. That all seems very familiar from when I had a functioning version of the program several years ago. However (and this is probably due to a glitch in the program) the tabs on the top of my searches are completely blank, without the title of the search and the "x" button to delete them. Any ideas on why they are missing?

Thanks,
alice

More than likely a Java issue. Especially if you're using a version of Java belonging to OS 10.2 or earlier. Other than that, if you're using Panther or Tiger, then I'd suggest you try to make more HDD space for LW on the operating system drive, perhaps get more ram if possible, & keep shares below 2,000 files, & Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!.

Another option which might work is to delete LW's prefs folder whilst LW is closed. Prefs folder is found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

* If you're using Tiger (OS 10.4), then update your Java to 1.5 & use your java utility (found in Utilities folder) to force LW to use Java 1.5 as it has improvements for LW's performance.

Update to Java 1.4.1 for a start: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120242

Don't forget to then do a safe reboot (hold down SHIFT key whilst rebooting until you see the safe booting message), then open Utilities folder, open Disk Utility, repair permissions, then reboot normally.

That suggestion about Java 1.5 only applies to Tiger users. I didn't know which OS version you were using at the time. Jaguar (10.2.x) users are only capable of updating to Java 1.4.x
But with Java 1.4 you should see some improvement with LW compared to Java 1.3.x
