Limewire still crashing even after fixes?? Hi all, I’ve read all of the posts (including the sticky) for why Limewire is crashing and have tried the fixes but I must have missed something because I still can’t get it to stop crashing. :( Please forgive me for so many questions. I’m pretty good with computers but I never fully understood the whole Java thing and why it makes some programs act funny. I am running OSX 10.4.5 on an iMac G5 (non Intel) Using Limewire Pro 4.10.9 Have recently done security updates 2006-001 & 2006-002 Have repaired permissions before and after both updates I uninstalled Quicktime 7.0.4 and reinstalled 7.0.1 I installed Java to J2SE50 Release 3 Now for my questions… Someone said that you need to remove the old Java from OSX > Library > Receipts folder. Well there are 3 Java type files listed in my folder: J2SE50Release3.pkg Java.pkg Java131and142Release2.pkg (I do not see a Java15release1.pkg file though) Did I install the wrong Java file? Which pkg do I delete from the Receipts folder? Do I have to restart and/or repair permissions again after that? Once it’s deleted do I completely re-install Limewire? Also, I see Java files in my Utilities folder: J2SE5.0 Java 1.3.1 Plugin Settings Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings. Do I have to do anything with these? Again I’m sorry for all of the questions. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks! :) Kat =^..^= |
Osx You don't remove any files from the Receipts folder unless you can't install a program of the same name (the system requires all receipts.) Then remove that particular receipt. Did you open the Java 1.5 utility(preferences) found in your Utilities folder & tell it to use Java 1.5 as 1st preference? See Setting up Java 1.5 If you haven't already, try deleting your LW preferences folder whilst LW is closed & found here /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire |
