Default Limewire quits upon opening

Limewire quits upon opening. Used to work fine. Its version 4.10.9

but I have quicktime 7.1 so the "quicktime bug of 7.04 wouldn't apply, right?

Seems to me the prob started after the J2SE 5.0 Release 4 update.

Any solution to fix Limewire? Thx

(tried the 4.11 beta; didn't fix the prob)

Are you actually using Java 1.5 for LW? You can change which version of Java via the Java prefs setting in the Utilities folder; see Setting up Java 1.5

I'd recommend repairing permissions after a safe reboot. ie: Restart the computer whilst holding down the SHIFT key. You'll eventually see a window with the safe boot option .. choose it. Then go to Utilities folder & open Disk Utility & repair permissions. Then reboot normally & try LW again.

If that doesn't fix it then it might be worth trying to reinstall the Java 1.5 using an "Offline" installer. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...lease4ppc.html this one is for standard macs not the Intell one. If you have the new Intell mac, then get http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...ase4intel.html
BTW if it won't let you reinstall it, you'll need to remove the J2SE50Release4.pkg file from the Receipts folder found in the Library folder. But ONLY remove this file. All others are required by the system!!! Then try installing it again.
(ie: Mac OSX/Library/Receipts/J2SE50Release4.pkg)

If this doesn't fix the problem, ... then it might be QuickTime. If you had QuickTime 6 on your computer before you installed QT 7 then you may need to remove all QT 6 receipts. Follow directions here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852

Should I d/l 1.5? Link? thx;-)

Java 5.0 is 1.5 (I don't know why they change it's reference)

Actually you could try changing it back to 1.4.2 temporarily to see if the problem is the Java 1.5 update & see if LW runs or not.

reinstalled java 5.0 from the standalone page. No luck. hmm
tried a safe boot, but the screen never did load while holding down shift key; how long does it usually take; I waited 7 minutes....
Should I leave my quicktime 7 receipts alone? hmm I was using limewire 4.11 beta; maybe I'll switch to 4.10.9

Safe boots do take a lot longer than normal ... but 7 mins doesn't sound right! More about safe boots here What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X) & the reason for taking longer: Safe boot normally takes longer than normal & using disk utility, etc. in safe mode Using Disk Utility and fsck to resolve startup issues or perform disk maintenance

and if its a quicktime issue; its safe to trash receipt files like
quicktime7SDK.pkg and all the other quicktime7something files; even if there are no quicktime6 receipt files in there?

Only do as suggested in the links. One of the links (one that refers to QT 6) said not to delete all QT files, only the ones they suggested. Jumping back to QT 7.0.1 might be worth it if nothing else is working. QuickTime 7.0.4 bug stops LimeWire from opening!
