We need to get rid of that brick wall.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. Which OSX version do you have?
2. Is your OSX firewall turned on?
3. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
4. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
5. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
6. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

7. BTW it wouldn't surprise me if your speeds are affected by your isp. Do a speed test whilst LW is not running; choose the nearest one to your location from here: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/#T & do a 2nd one from a different location & note the speeds: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/

ok, here goes:
1) Mac OSX 10.3.9
2) OSX Firewall : dunno how can I check? under system profile there is a FireWire Bus with Speed 400MB/sec ... is that what we are looking for?
3) Modem & router:
under System profile under Modems:
Driver: MotorolaSM56K.kext (v1.3.1)
Hardware Version: Version 1.0
Interface Type: I2S
Country: 46 (Greece)
Modem Model: Jump
Modulation: V.92
Plugged into the phone line & airport - Brand Asus ADSl Router. there are a lot of numbers on there and I don't know which is the serial number (they are all on stickers) here they are:
0015F298A98B
AAM6010EV/M (this one appears twice, on 2 stickers)
A02EMAS1
5CB0AC036247
BTW not clear on whether the 0s (zeros) are in fact Os (letter O)
4) connecting from home
5) LW: 4.10.9 Java 1.4.2_09
6) none - that I know of! ;-)

It looks to me like you only have a simple dial up service. That would be 56 kbps not 512 kbps. So the speeds you're getting for dial up are normal. But then again you said you were getting 15 KB/s which is faster than normal dial up speed. I wonder if you have broadband but are using a non-broadband modem?
Only adsl, dsl, (broadband), or cable or "some" satellite services will give you a faster service & overall speeds.

BTW to find the OSX firewall, open the system preferences. ie: Click on the apple icon on toolbar in far left, then choose system prefs & then open sharing & then click on the firewalls tab. More about it here Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) or see here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=52529

Ok, the OS X firewall is off!
and no, not a dial up service, we definitely have ADSL!

Attahed - I hope- are grabs of what I am seeing in terms of LW screen and net provider - hope this helps!

how can we remove the brick wall?

Well there's nothing wrong with your downld speed there. 50 + KB/s is close to the maximum of a 512 kbps connection. This varies depending on overhead losses such as distance from ISP provider, losses due to hardware such as your connection device.

Your Asus device doesn't show the model number on that image. But I think there is a + sign there which may give more information about this. What you need to try to do is find UPnP (Universal Plug & Play) option to turn on. Look in the Advanced Set up option of your device & see if there's UPnP mentioned anywhere. If not, then manual port forwarding might be in order. It would help to have a model number. But I've seen at least one Asus model does have UPnP support. It's found under Advanced options.

Hi again,
can't see anything resembling what you mentioned UPnP under Advanced Options... & I have no idea what manual port forwarding might be

any ideas on that start up memory? my computer keeps opening windows to ward me to do something about it but I don't know how or where...

Install more ram. lol OSX has its own way of using ram & virtual memory. If you're seeing blank areas on LW's interface whilst LW is 1st opening, that's a Java issue not ram issue. Unfortunately Java 1.4.2 which is the highest version OS 10.3.9 offers isn't up to scratch. Java 1.5 has improvements. Mac's Java is not as good as the versions released by Sun Java for Windows & Linux.

As far as disk error goes ... it's probably due to lack of HDD space available. Check how much space is available.

I must be a slow typer. I didn't see your last response. Check the other sections of the device for upnp. Try Management.

What type of warning do you get? Is it an OSX system warning or LW message?

how do I install more ram?
where/how do I check how much HDD is available? can I not attribute more space to LW?
You're fine - I'm just a bit frantic is all! ;-)
am checking mangement now
