Question Running Limewire makes my Mac shut down sporadically - please help!

Does anyone have any idea as to why running Limewire results in my Mac OS X v.10.4.7 shutting down randomly? It's very confusing, and I'm worried it may be doing damage to the computer. Usually every two hours or so - sometimes more and sometimes less- the whole thing just switches right off. When I reboot, the date on the computer ends up as Jan 1, 1970.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Umm, let's see...here we go:

Machine Name: iMac
Machine Model: PowerMac6,1
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)

The problem is quite baffling. I used to have Acquisition before I got Limewire (basic) and the same thing happened.

Thanks!

How much RAM & spare Hard Disk Drive space do you have?

Keep your shared files less than 2,000 & try to keep your incompletes minimal. Try this: Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

Thanks for the help so far - I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately, I think the problem must be something else. I've got loads of RAM and hard disk drive space free and I've only got a handful of shared files and no incompletes. Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Have you tried a safe boot & repair of permissions? Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption

However, just be note-ful that cache cleaning can mean that afterwards many applications will behave as though you are opening them for the 1st time. I found that to be a PITA!
