mac osX 10.4.6 lime wire pro, trouble support hasn't got back to me yet, any suggestions gracefully accepted. Downloaded limewire pro, cost me about |
15 euro. had basic LiWi. tried to install, quicktime kept opening saying could not load file. dragged nicon to applications, no luck. upgraded java program still no luck. any ideas? |
Sounds like you downloaded the installer using Explorer so your system doesn't know what the file is. See this link: Help!!! dmg thinks its an Excell or QuickTime document (click on link) Explorer is NOT fully OSX compatible. Never use it to download dmg files. It doesn't understand them & you end up with an incomplete dmg file. |
lw pro i've payed for the pro version so downloading again is not an option. also i have the newest version of safari so that rules out the explorer theory??????? |
Your support & free updates lasts for 6 months. Are you suggesting you purchased Pro longer than 6 months ago? Many people will bookmark their pro download page. Which version of Quicktime do you have? Yes for me, LW will only work from the Applications folder. Don't know why. (There was a bug with an earlier version of QT but the newest doesn't seem to have such; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=51940 ) |
QT again the newest, 7.1.3 i've tried the support with no satisfaction, i'm going to contact pay pal in the morning and get them to cancel the ransaction. that looks to be the only solution. i only have it since 18.00 tuesday 17th (yesterday) |
Well you can re-download it then. Did you do a safe boot & repair permissions? ie: reboot whilst holding down the SHIFT key until you see the SAFE boot option. After started up, go to Utilities folder, open DIsk Utility & repair permissions. Then reboot normally. If that doesn't fix it, then try the last step in the list here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36374 If Quicktime is trying to open the file, then you have a system problem & you will probably have this problem with other program installers. You may need to repair disk using Disk Utility from the OSX installation disk. |
BTW in the suggestion about an alternative LW in the link, it doesn't require installation. Just drag & drop into your apps folder after mounting the dmg file. Choose the "nightly" build. But the media player is disabled as it's only a beta. Oh btw, I presume you are able to open the dmg file right? If not, then it sounds like Disk Copy is not opening it but some other utility which can't do it properly. Disk Copy is found in Utilities folder. |
cheers for your help, i done the simple move of uninstalling quicktime, this freed up the program. i'm always having problems with quicktime, apple are letting themselves down with that program. thanks again. |
