Default OSX 10.4.8 Installation problems

first things first, here is what i have to play with:
20" iMac
2.1 Ghz Power PC G5
1.5 gb RAM
48 gb free disc space out of 250 gb
running OSX 10.4.8
java version 1.3.1 (and also showing on system profiler java 1.4.2)

i used LW happily for over 2 years, and finally decided it must be time to upgrade.
I downloaded the latest version from LW own site, (NOT the BETA version).
Ran the installer, seemed OK.

LW opened, but stopped it's loading at 'loading user interface" and therefore I had a partial interface.

I went through my entire system and trashed every reference to LW i could find (with the exception of previously downloaded files of course).

Went through the whole download-install procedure again.....same result.

searched here for a long time, and found a post by 'lord of the rings' recommending a 'nightly rebuild version" and accessed the supplied link.
Trashed every reference to LW again, and downloaded and installed the 'nightly rebuild" version....same result.

i zapped the PRAM, I rebooted from the OS disc and repaired preferences etc.

I trashed everything again, etc. etc. ...same result.

i came across a link to 'frostwire' so thought i would try that...guess what? yup exactly the same.

I have now trashed all references to limewire, and frostwire and am back to where I started, but without any version of limewire of course.

I have tried very hard here to give you all as much info as I can, but will happily fill in any gaps that people need.

thanks in anticipation for any help.
regards,
Bart

You need to Trash old java versions, or at least 1.3 and update to 1.5 See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=36377 > The links after "Tiger users should update their Java to 1.5"

I hope this helps

Hi again, Ok it has taken a while, but here's where we are now.

I have trashed all references to Java and installed version 1.5.0_06
the LW version i have is 4.12.6

The program starts, as before, but then as it is loading the user interface, it seems to freeze up, just like before.

Any more help would be appreciated.
Bart

Hi,

It would seem I am having a similar problem. I am running Mac OS 10.4.9 on a Core Duo MacBook with the current 1.5 version of Java and do have my preferences set as mentioned above. When I try to launch Limewire it stops with a dialog box that says "fatal error". Then gives me this text:

LimeWire version 4.13.2
Java version 1.5.0_07 from Apple Computer, Inc.
Mac OS X v. 10.4.9 on i386
Free/total memory: 16297016/19791872

I'm having the same problems, i have the the MacBook, 2.0GHz, 1GB, 80GB harddrive, superdrive and all that, and on monday limewire wouldn't stay open, i'd open it from the dock, then when thescreen to upgrade to limewire Pro came up, i clicked later, like i always do, and then it seemed to time out or something, it just shut down, so i turned the Macbook off, and back on and it worked, now as of yesterday it won't open, i've tried upgrading to V 4.13 beta, instead of V4.12 but i'm still having the problem
