Default need help opening limewire file

I downloaded lime wire(basic version) for Mac OS X (10.4.8) but I can't open the file. It keeps opening up the installer. I can't tell if you solved this problem in other posts. Can you help me out?

Default Cannot open Limewire on my Mac after months of OK.

This is my first message and I would appreciate any light on this subject. For some reason, Limewire has disapeared off my desk top. Then when trying to reinstall, it won't open. Limewire doesn't recognize any of my 3 e-mail addresses when I go to submit for a new download. I have a customer numbr that was given to me when I purchase Limewire many months ago. What next? A message I sent to info@limewire.com comes back as undeliverable.Thanks. SilverWings

SilverWings,

I'm a bit confused by your post...do you have a LW installer or not? If you have no installer (I guess Pro since you paid for it!):
How long ago did you buy Pro? Remember, you'll get updates & email support for 6 months...if you purchased more than 6 months ago, your email address won't be in the database any more.
If that's the case, you can either download the free basic version or buy Pro again. LW doesn't keep old installers for download...it's up to the user to save & back up installers

I see Hell Fire has triple-posted. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...002#post249002
Perhaps can also see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...035#post249035

SilverWings should check exactly how far back they purchased LW Pro, since updates are only available for 6 months.

Wink Purchase PRO over 6 months ago

I did purchase PRO over 6 months ago. I guess I still thought it was a one-time payment. Anyway, I downloaded the Basic and am still having the same problem with the icon bouncing in the MAC OS 10.4 dock. I've followed the other suggestions about re installing JAva after traching one file and also did the BSD package suggestion. The directions were very clear (even though I don't have a clue what it's for), but still not working. I'm going to see if I can go back and re-install Mac OS 10.3. Too many problems with 10.4 it seems.

Did you make sure you were using Java 1.5? Setting up Java 1.5. Did you do a safe boot & repair permissions?

Also, try one of Jum's nightly builds. His builds sometimes overcome the issue you're having ... http://www1.mager.org/LimeWire/

Smile LW is back working with JUM build and new Java file

I tried both ideas and one of them (or both!) did it. Limewire is now no longer bouncing in the dock and stays on. Also, I'd followed another idea which entailed dealing with a firewall and port. I'm totally out of my league here and jut hope I'm not doing any fatal !?!! things for later on. Thanks for all the detailed help.

Default Limewire is on -- my Mac G5 fan is spinning like crazy!

Maybe a silly point. But since I got Limewire back on with the great ideas and fixes, the fan in my Mac G5 is spinning like crazy and not slowing down. Should I be concerned??

Not sure why that should be the case. If it is due to LW, then perhaps use this tip Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! & also keep shared files less than 2,000 for OSX.

BTW did you end up doing the SAFE Boot & Repair permissions? 1st do a safe boot & repair permissions; (1) Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode; & then (2) Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions. Then reboot normally.

Default Did Safe Boot and some permission repairs

Yes, I did one of these tasks completely, the safe Boot. Then with Cocktail or jackrabbit (??? - sorry, but I've been on this for a couple of days and have lost track) I did a repair permission set of tasks. However, whatever application I was using kept going and going (maybe over 15 - 20 minutes) and after quite a while I quit the program. Should I have kept going?
