Default Having problem with antivirus

Please help! I have never had any kind of anti-virus before and never had problem with my mac. But because its been suggested I should have them to protect my mac downloading music from LM I have installed free iAntiVirus and ClamXav.app softwares. Now I'm having big problem. My mac had been hacked I think by these free softwares just weeks after installing them. I now been told that those softwares actually harm your computer not protecting it.

I want to make sure that when I uninstall and delete them I get rid of all its files hiding in my mac. Is anyone knows what files name to look for and where to find them in my hard drive? Someone please help. Thanks.

Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.6.4) Snow Leopard, 2.0 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB 667 MHz SDRAM, 4 MB L2 Cache

Sorry for late reply. Check both system & user account Application support and Preferences folders for anything linked to those companies. These would be the main two I'd suggest. Application folder for the actual applications. Check whether either application installer has an uninstaller or uninstaller within their app folder if they have one.

As for possibility of hidden files, that's a dangerous thing to play with unless you know what to touch & what not to. I'm aware of one utility that can show hidden files.

Thank you LOTR. The iAntiVirus has an uninstaller but the ClamXav.app I couldn't find if it had it. I already went to Preferences and have deleted the two files with iAntiVirus I found but could only find one with ClamXav on it. I just want to make sure I got rid of them all. What's the name of the application you said can show hidden files. Is it safe to have and use it. Thanks.

By the way. I have now bought a VirusBarrier X6 from Apple but my problem still hasn't improve at all - the hacker still creating havoc in my computer. I am so frustrated, I don't know how to get rid of the hacker in my mac. Hope you could help me more. Many thanks.

I presume you use OSX firewall & set it to run in Stealth mode. You can check firewall logs as for which ip addresses attempt to access your computer.

As for the invisibility program; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tml#post351589 you switch visible or invisible each time you open.

How are you sure you are being hacked?
