write permission?
 

Hi. Everytime I try to install it into the default or any other folder it says I don't have "write permission." What gives? This is my private computer! I've increased preferred memory, installed the latest stuffit and MRJ. What else can I do? Someone, please help!!!

What you have to do is give yourself permission to the folder where it is trying to install. This can be done by selecting the folder and hitting command + i

I had to do this on someones Mac when they wanted to install some new fonts in Mac OS 10.2. I hope that helps

When I hit apple I it gives me the info on my hard-drive but I don't see anything about permissions there. I'm really confused. Please help.

which system are you using? MacOS 8.6 could "protect" the System and Applications folder in the General Control Panel. You could also use the LW prefs to set a new download folder on the desktop, for example.

I have MAC 9OS. I've tried setting up a new folder on my desktop; it claims I have no permission to write there either. I searched all discussion groups for this problem and saw several threads but most of them offered Linux code as a solution. i'm a novice at computers. This is so frustrating!

Your problem is very unusual, since OS 9 doesn't really use "permissions". Thanks for giving that info, and you did right to search the discussions.
The closest equivanent to "permissions" is the ability to "lock" files or if a file is "busy". LimeDude knows OS 9 best, but I think you can search for "Locked" files using some of Sherlock's custom search features. You can unlock files using the Get Info command.

Another idea--You might want to look at your control panel "Extensions Manager" and see if you can turn off unecessary extensions. One of them might be causing the folder to be "busy." Virus prevention software often causes installation problems for many programs.

Lastly, have you ever gotten LW to install?
