Cannot install OSX versions Hi, I have been trying for 4 months to get a new version of Limewire pro that I can install. Each time I try to install a downloaded version i can get as far as the limewire "click to install" screen ( with the cut lime icon above the words). Heres where it gets wierd. upon double clicking on install the installer brings up the stuffit icon in the dock, which bounces 1-3 times then quits and dissapears. And that is all that happens--no new window ( ie license aggreement etc) ever appears, the install just never starts. I have gone as far as a full re-install of OSX, and have both upgraded and downgraded copies of stuffit, as well as continuing to use a 2.? version of limewire which was deleted when I installed Panther today. Limewire Pro support has never responded to my letters asking for assistance...can one of you help? |

I can try . . . but the LW installer for OSX doesn't use Stuffit. The one on your download page should be for MacOSX, and downloads to your desktop as "LimeWireOSX.dmg", which you can double-click and Disk Copy (from your Utilities folder) will mount it as a disk image. Can you let me know the file name that shows up on the desktop, and which version of OSX you are using? Cheers |

cont'd Hi Stief i do get the mounted .dmg volume...it even brings up the installation screen i described above. It is upon double-clicking on the install limewire icon that i get the stuffit icon appearing, bouncing 2-3x and quitting (from the dock) The installation never continues and as i described, none of my fixes for either limewire, osx or even stuffit ( which i know shouldnt be launching at all here) have helped. PS I broke down and purchased "Aquisition" last night, but am not as happy with the interface. Cheers Greg |

cont'd Hi BTW as per your questions, I am using OSX 10.3.2 and the limewire version is 3.8.7 ( for the moment!) on my desktop is the mounted volume "limewire" which when double clicced will bring up the "double click to install limewire" window. And that is as far as i ever get ( for months now ) Thx, Greg |

Hi Gregory Thanks for the info. . . the specifics really help. Have you also gone through the general system maintenance (safeboot/ repair permissions)? For a quick check that it is an installer problem (not something else), would you try installing Jens-Uwe Mager's free CVS build of LW (click here). It uses the drag and drop method of installing. Post back and let me know if that works properly, and then we can work on why the regular installer doesn't. This will mean searching and deleting all old LW pieces. btw, I had a similar problem with a fresh Panther install which was fixed by searching and deleting the "Install.LimeWire.pkg". However, I'm not confident that is your situation, but might be worth a try. cheers |
