Default limewire freezes

ever since I upgraded to Limewire 4.9 the program locks up, freezes, and in general is slow. Every time I use it I have to "force quit" the program just to be able to continue using it again. It takes forever to start up. I thought maybe it was an install problem so I redownloaded and reinstalled the program several times. I was about to upgrade to Pro, but will not until I can figure out why it is so slow. I am running Mac OS10.4.2. Thankyou

if 9.1 is freezing while LW is starting up, try sharing only one or two small files at first.

If it is crashing when you try to click the menus, you'll need to look for extension conflicts (FaxStF was one that gave problems a while back, for example).

Really though, the best bet is to upgrade your iMac to OS X if possible. Java for OS 9 is really outdated, and Apple stopped supporting it quite a while ago.
