See 1. OSX Firewall settings for Tiger (principle applies to earlier OSX versions also!!!)

2. But your firewall issue might be either or both your software firewall & your modem/router which prolly has an internal NAT firewall. For clearing LW thru NAT see the UPnP section here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) (half way down page!) If still problems then please specify your modem/router brands & model numbers/versions!!!? BTW UPnP means the program communicates directly with the connection device to open whichever port(s) it requires. LW only requires one port for listening. Some devices don't have good UPnP implementation & are thus better off manually port forwarded (see section 3 of link I gave.)

Smile new dual core imac with x10.4.7

Thanks! Limewire just quit working and then the newest version wouldn't load. I did the Firewall thing as recommended and did the safeboot and fixed premissions (all recommended in this forum) and it is loaded and runs fine.

Mac OSX. Download application opens in MS Excel
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been using Lime Wire Basic (4.8.1) for MAC OS X and have tried numerous times unsuccessfully to upgrade to Lime Wire Basic 4.12. When the download is complete, it opens in Microsoft Excel displaying 51759 lines of text codes. How do I get the application to install? Thanks in advance for your assistance?

I have mac tiger version. I used to have pc and had no problems getting limewire to work.
But now, after installing the latest version fo LW for mac, I cannot start the program.
Have tried to upgrade my Quick time to the latest, and also I have set my firewall to accept gnutella/limewire on the code 6346, and the firewall is set on OFF.

What can I do to get my LW running??
Any help on this would be wonderful

Did you try running Software update to check your Java is up to date?

I am presently using an intel mac & LW 4.18 refuses to run on it. So I went back to 4.16.

Yes. I think I have the latest edition of Java, I resently downloaded version, 1,5 of java. And I have checht my mac update for software update.
I also have the latest QT. Dont know if that`s a problem.

I have a powerpc-mac with 10.4, tiger edition.
But I will try to use 4.16 og LW. I have tried some editions of LW so fare, maybe not 4.16.

I have one more question!! Do you know If its possible in any way to get Internet Exp. to the mac version I have. Have tried to download but It did not work out.
Thanks!!!

Don't forget Setting up Java 1.5 to make LW use Java 1.5. However if you're using the most recent LW then chances are it's already using it, else I don't think LW would have opened.

Don't forget to try these tips: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html
I used one of those tips to fix a sudden connection problem a few weeks ago. I think it was disabling OOB under Speed or/& Performance options.

Internet Explorer? Yes, I think I had it on my older G4 & it ran in Tiger from memory. I prefered Netscape though on my old G4 above both Safari & I.E. Old habits die hard I guess. (In OS 9 I preferred IE.) However, both Netscape & IE (OSX version) will no longer run well at many sites. Both are now no longer supported programs (have not been updated in years.)
