importing downloads into iMovie

I have limewire pro and Mac OS X. When I try to import a limewire MP3 downloaded file (i.e. a song) into iMovie I can't. The file doesn't highlight. I have no trouble importing CD's I have imported thur iTUNES.

try first converting those mp3's with Toast, er better tune up to FinalCutPro??
