Default Morpheus is destroying the network!

Original thread can be found here.

I'm starting to think that Morpheus IS funded by the RIAA, though! Lame [EDIT] ruin every file I try to download. Anyone else ever get this problem?

You download an mp3, listen to it in Winamp, and as you're listening, you see the bitrate drop drastically down towards 0, and the sound is gone! THIS IS THE WORK OF MORPHEUS!!!!

The only fix so far is to turn on secure downloads and try again.

I wish Morpheus had a phone number so we could call and [EDIT] at them 24/7 until they fixed the lousy lame-[EDIT] client!

Vinnie, you're looking for a feature that everyone wants? I've got it right here, it's called "Block Morpheus."

Question... to both Vinnie and Shareaza...
Do either one of you have a fix to this problem? And, no, blocking and secure downloads are not a fix, but they're a start in the right direction.

Maybe if every other client blocked Morpheus (which WILL single handedly destroy the network if it's not blocked!) the millions of newbs that still use it will migrate over to a better client, like Bearshare or Shareaza.

Or we could pull a KaZaA! Block Morpheus at the host-caches! Great [EDIT] idea! You could block the misbehaving client, and when the Morpheus people see that their already diminishing millions are once again migrating over to other better clients, they'll finally decide to fix the problem. You can let the new properly behaving client connect, but always keep the misbehaved client blocked so people will either upgrade or switch to something better.

I think you are a little bit exaggerating. I wouldn't argue the fact that Morpheus 1.9.1 (aka Gnucleus 1.8.2.0) is the worst thing to hit the network since XoloX 1.12, but they are not really destroying the network, just reducing its performance.

All we can do is hope that Morpheus upgrades its software soon.

No, I'm not exaggerating. You can't download a file anymore without it being corrupt. Even if you're downloading hashed files! What point is the network if you can't download files? That sounds like destruction of the network to me. Plus, there's no doubt in my mind that this behaviour by Morpheus will cause many people to leave the Gnutella network in favor of other proprietary networks, such as KaZaA and WinMX. No files = no users = no network. And you don't think they need to be blocked? How can you say I'm over-exaggerating? Morpheus has just accomplished in a matter of weeks what the RIAA has been trying to do for years.

If things don't change quick, we'll have just witnessed the death of Gnutella. Not by the RIAA, the MPAA, or some government agency... but by some greedy half-wit developer, who cares more about holding on to his diminishing user-base for as long as he can than work quick to resolve the problem and keep the network ALIVE! Why should he care? They're building their own client on their own network. They must be getting very close to a release date, because they care NOTHING about Gnutella anymore!

I've not downloaded a corrupt file in weeks, and I did download a couple of hundred mp3s. I don't think the problem you are experiencing is related to Morpheus. Low quality files with corruptions are a problem of gnutella in general and I've been told that the RIAA has started to flood gnutella with corrupted mp3s.

Since the release of morpheus 1.9 I´ve experienced some problems connecting to morpheus-users when I was using limewire2.4.
So I also thought that there is a bug in morpheus.
But as soon as I tried shareaza there were no more problems connecting to anyone ......

So I really don´t think that morpheus could destroy the network (morpheus-users are a70%part of gnutella) but that there is an incompatibility between limewire and morpheus/gnucleus!

Not at all, - there are no incompatibilites whatsoever between LimeWire and Morpheus as far as ultrapeer / leaf connections are concerned.

I don't see how this could be the case, since I'm running Bearshare.

I believe it has to do with the shifting IP address problem within Morpheus.

Yes, this makes it harder to download files from them first of all, and second of all..... if you do happen to get a file from them, it will most likely be corrupt because they're sending you the wrong bits!

i agree completly with sanelson and peerless. I have been leaving messages in every relevent thread for over a week ( it seems most of you are out west and i'm in cst and thus miss your on line time) with no response. Why are you people talking around the issue and not responding. WE ARE HAVING BIG PROBLEMS OUT HERE SINCE MORPHEUS SHOWED UP--HELLO-CAN YOU HEAR ME???!! Can all of the posted messages be wrong? We are frustrated to death with morpheus and ready to jump ship...you will indeed have a network with no files. In fact, it is clear to me that in the past 2 weeks the number of files is down dramaticly (and please dont blame it on the college break, that is so insulting- do college students "die" during the summer, do you think they stop turning on their machines???
You must have some reason for not telling the truth about this, for not providing a fix, some financial incentive... your beginning to act like a cyber government, and I just cant abide another form of that.

Uhm, if college students go home for summer break, chances are that their computers won't be connected to such a fast Internet connection.

Whatt???!! No cable at home???
I have children, do you?
All they have to do is ask. In fact, most had the connection established before they left for school. Have you not heard that parents communicate with their children at school over the internet because its cheeper than the telephone?
Is this really the best response that you can make? How about adressing the real issue? It is just this type of petty evasion that I asked you not to make.
