Morpheus 1.3.3.1 preview

i just tried it and it's obvious that they used gnucleus source.
i was wondering if swabby was aware of that all the time.
if yes, did they help you somehow with gnucleus?
if no, are you going to do something about that?

shouldn't morpheus post their source code if they used GPL'd project?
and i might be blind, but i couldn't find any mention of gnucleus in this version of morpheus...

Hmm...

Gnucleus is open source so everybody can use the source!

Swabby can´t do anything against this!

Morpheus have to release their source too... also if they add new technics...

They don´t need to mention Gnucleus or swabby in the client itself - they have to do it in source!

well there only seems to be 2 difernces to me between the two

1) the icons for conect/preferences etc wich are much sexier - (they are easier to decipher)

2) the adition of the adverts and web stuff etc wich sucks.

it seems a bit cheeky to me to just to use gnucleus like this but i
i wonder if are they going to keep up with any new features/improvemnets that are done on the open source code?
and if they make any changes are they going to keep it open source - i assume they are obliged to.

it does however seem to vindicate gnucleus .. ppl can now say gnuclues is morpheos without the anyoying adverts -or visa versa, therefore i can see that gnuclues may posibly benefit from this.

i notice that they have not done anything regarding the issues that have been raised ie transfer list and re searching when all hosts are offline.

if gnuclues makes these improvements and morpheus doesnt keep up gnuclues will be way ahead.

ps. I just noticed that under the help about it says it includes gnucleus under the genral public license

Gnucleus is under GPL so Morpheus is too!

Morpheus have to release their source with "ALL IMPROVEMENTS" they do...

well thats cool

so realy it means that there will be 2 versions of gnucleus :-
with adverts or without - i know wich i will prefer

i gues also it means there will potentialy be more development effort going in to the project wich cant be bad as long as they dont diverge too far or cuase conflict somehow.

open-source?

very off-topic, i'm confuzed about this "open-source"-where can i learn more?
like, who(governement/agency/court/rambo) will enforce that they (morpheus) releases thier code?

swabby could take streamcast to court and sue their asses off. it's been done b4.
if you want more info check out www.sourceforge.net

Unethical

While it is open source code, Morpheus stealing the complete design and layout of Gnucleus is unethical IMHO.

Morgwen March 2nd, 2002 05:07 PM

@ bub2000

Maybe but legal!

It's not unethical in any way, thats what GPL supposed to be: Some can take the code and then he has to give back any improvements and fixes, great for Gnucleus also. It becomes illegal and unethical when they don't give back the source.
