![]() I've just noticed that id you search for music majority of replies (>50%) are from Morpheus. So looks like the whole crowd of old Morpheus users are now hanging around in Gnutella, at least my feeling was that network starts to 'fall in fragments' again as it used to happen in august-september of 2001. In a sence more users mean more files, but there are certain disadvantages of having such a big 'commercial power' influencing the 'free' Gnutella development. ![]() I don't foresee any major problems, except that there might be a greater tendency to "freeload" on the network. That is something that can be addressed by the developers by implementing some "rules" (ie., force download directory as shared upload directory, limit search results based on the number of files shared, etc.) Yes, some of these "rules" can be circumvented if someone really wanted to do so, but that would not be beneficial to anyone on the network, including that person in particular. Nonetheless, I highly recommend that the Morpheus' dev team participates actively in forums or mailing lists. I understand that the current Morpheus PE is a "hasty, interim solution" for their current problem. But they sure could use a little help from the Gnutella developers community to enhance their client for their own and general Gnutella network's benefit. |

![]() Freeloading was a problem on Morpheus-to some anyway. Nice feature of old Morpheus software was that (for those not familar)when someone was dl from you -you could have a look at their folder and see if they had anything to share. Made it easy to spot leechers (and disconnect them if the mood took ya) Bad bits aside -I always found it to be fast and stable. At the end of the day we are all 'users' and all the same -dont think it matters what 'group' our software says we belong to. Oh yeah-and I ALWAYS shared on Morpheus same as I do here! Regards to you all, Saggydog |

![]() wrong... the ability to browse user's files wasn't added until lately. many times it doesn't work. the first kazaa/morph/fast track didn't offer the ability to limit uploads really at all. the user would //constantly// re-connect and destroy you if you stopped them. Personally i think, if the media that is being served on the old Morpheus [fast track] service is moved to GNUTELLA {by large} then the network has a real hope of exploding. Gnutella works, and it's pretty genius. If //smarter// clients are released then P2P can't be killed. Good luck. |
