I only get "Connection failed" Hi, I've downloaded napshare-1.1-2 today and when I run it I only get "Connection failed", setting dbg=5 shows me about 9 different hosts. All the time, the "gnitella connections" windows shows Name/IP, "Outgoing" and "Connection failed" (only once I've seen "Old 0.4 client" or something like that.) I am on sympatico.ca ISP, I have Linux 2.4, and even when I totally remove firewall ("ipchains -I input -j ACCEPT; ipchains -I output -j ACCEPT") - [ baad idea ], I still get the same results. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong ? What should I try ? Any pointers are welcome ! John |
try this page http://www.zero-g.net/gwebcache/report.html enter in some of the IPs you find on the host cache pages to get it started if you run it min weekly you wont have this problem again as it collects new hosts all the time |
I was on this site, but what has to be filled in and where. I can't also get connected to the Gnutella Network. Napshare tries several host catcher, but it's unsuccessful. My OS: SuSE is 8.0... |
I have wrote the following hostcatchers subsequently into the field behind the add-button and clicked on ADD, but I still cannot get connected to the Gnutella network: * gnotella.fileflash.com:6346 * connect1.gnutellanet.com:6346 * router.limewire.com:6346 * public.bearshare.net:6346 * connect2.gnutellanet.com:6346 * connect3.gnutellanet.com:6346 * connect4.gnutellanet.com:6346 * gnet2.ath.cx:6346 * gnutella-again.hostscache.com:6346 Even when my firewall is deactivated I get no connect. What can be wrong? Do I have to put this list into my /home/.napshare/NAPS-hosts file? |
Same on my system. I've got the same error, and I tried all I was able to do. Nothing at all, always the same errors as above. :\ SIGH ! |
What to do now? Still cannot get connection to any host. Isn't there the developer of NAPSHARE? Can You help? BTW: Is there any other good Gnutella client with a GUI running on LINUX? I know already LIMEWIRE, but it isn't so nice as NAPSHARE and it was working well till now :-( |
I gave up I gave up. I have downloaded GTK-Gnutella here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...?group_id=4467 and it was working from the first start on exactly the same machine without any connection problems... |
WOAH, had the same problem, thanx for the cache-website http://www.zero-g.net/gwebcache/report.html, worx great! |
sorry, IT'S http://www.zero-g.net/gwebcache/report.html (w/o ',') Quote:

Well, i cant get ANY gnutella client to conenct to ANY server...what am i doing wrong? Mutella used to work, but it quit recently |
No connections I have the same problem. I am currently living in residence at univeristy and someone told me that the problem was that the university server had disallowed this kinda thing. However, everyone else is running Kazaa on their PCs fine, but I have a Mac OS 9.2.2 and I can't connect with any gnutella program. If anyone has a solution I would really appreciate it. Thanks:( |
connecting I am also unable to connect to any servers. It has always worked fine for me, but today it crashed just after I hit the "clear" button. I am also unable to access: http://www.zero-g.net/gwebcache/report.html or zero-g.net for that matter. Anyone have a list of recent servers or another cache of IPs for me to plug in? Thanks. |
http://www.gnucleus.net/gwebcache/ I guess it is downed and being mirrored here: http://www.gnucleus.net/gwebcache/ |
It looks like NapShare is no longer maintained. There has not been any revision for a LOOOONG time. Pity, but I think it was a fork from some other program anyway. I always thought forking was a BAD idea... Paulo |
NapShare is still supported, you can help by writing code and submitting patches. It's a spare time - free thing. NapShare now uses the GWebCache system to find new hosts to connect to. Startup problems are a thing of the past. The new version is available at the site, if you are within a few days of this post you should pick up the current CVS version by anon CVS. Enjoy! http://napshare.sourceforge.net/ |
However.... However...the problem referred to repeatedly above has still not been solved, and obviously they're more worried about advertising than fixing. I, too, have switched to gtk-gnutella, and had much better success |
Try V1.2 and set a high number for the port |
just loaded napshare up, and looks sweet as. no problems installing or anything... but i'm getting exactly the same connection problems. i raised both the TTL numbers, but that doesn't change anything. so i downloaded GTK-Gnutella, and poof, straight away, without any config even, it worked... i'm not bitching, as i love the idea of napshare, and would love to see it working properly. is there any way you could borrow some code from any of the other opensource Gnutella clones??? |

The code base is already obsolete, and gtk-gnutella is far ahead: * It has flow control * It has powerful filter chains. * It has swarming. * It has SHA1 checking. * It has download mesh support * It has leaf/Ultrapeer support (CVS only) * It has a GTK2 front-end (nice) or a GTK1 classic front-end. Remember: NapShare is a clone of gtk-gnutella at version 0.13! I used to like NapShare myself, but since I tried gtk-gnutella, I will no longer move back to NapShare, which looks like a "toy" in comparison (no offense). Paulo |
