New Feature Requests Your idea for a cool new feature. Or, a LimeWire annoyance that has to get changed. |

Don't try to connect to private IP addresses It would be nice if LimeWire never tried to connect to private IP addresses. These addresses are used for LANs and are impossible to connect to unless you are on the same private network as the computer. It makes no sense for LimeWire to connect to these computers because : - You won't be able to connect to computers on other networks in the first place, so it wastes time. - You might send packets to another computer with the same IP address on your local network, wasting that computer's time. This is compounded when the first address doesn't work and LimeWire tries the next private IP address...and the next...and the next. Here are the address ranges : 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 Also, it would be nice to block connecting to 0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.0 - 127.255.255.255 (these actually appear under the connections tab) because these addresses connect the client to itself, which is pointless. |

0.0.0.0 & 127.*.*.* are blocked as far as I know. Blocking 10.*.*.* and 192.168.*.* would result in unwanted side effects if somebody tried to use LimeWire on a LAN. It will soon be possible to enter IPs with subnet masks as well as wild chars in the Filters/Hosts-panel, so you can blacklist local IPs. |
