Angry What Feature Would I like? Add a New Feature!

I have seen that " What feature would you like? " Thread there since January. Now Correct me if I am wrong but did you limewire guys say it would be in the next big release? 2.2 Came and went, no new feature. 2.3 came and went, and still no new feature. And now 2.4, and I doubt it will happen in 2.4 . So what exactly is going on? Why do you continue to upgrade the software and not add any of the new features that we all request? I dont think anyone asked for a new layout or the ability to search by genere. But We all are asking about Remote Que. I understand a limited amount of tweaking is nesesary each release but how come I have to upgrade once a week and not notice anything new? Just a few cosmetic changes is all I see.

Personaly I think it is because of this whole "Upgrades for 6 Months" thing on us PRO users. If you move the version number up by one each time every week it then looks like we are getting our moneys worth. But in reality its the same program. The only difference in Limewire since I have purchased it about 5 months ago that I see is the Layout. I would say to change that "Upgrades for 6 Months" to " X number of Upgrades " But I would be paying every month because you change versions every week.

What really is going on here? I got Limewire Pro and Supported you guys because I hoped that I would be able to do anything with the program and find anything. But you are just restricting more and more, and removing more and more with just a few cosmetic features.

I want to see LimeWire 2.5 or what ever to have so many new updates and feature that we've all requested, that it takes a day to figure them out. So I can get my moneys worth out of this.

Here is a suggestion. Why dont you post new threads updating us on the status of your work rather than leave us in the dark wondering what big new release will be next. LimeWire will go Bankrupt unless we know what is happening with the program.

And I hope you developers Personaly will respond because im tired of you ignoring all of us that really complain that mean somthing. So I want to see feedback from the developers answering and commenting.

Thanks

You don't /have/ to get each and every release.

I like the regular releases. It lets the users know that work is ongoing (the alternative might be that you sit there for a couple of months not knowing if there is going to be another release). For the developers it gets immediate feedback on the things they have just implemented rather than waiting a couple of months until they've forgotten what they did and being swamped by a whole heap of issues.

And while some of the features in a release may not be immediately apparent to the user, they can have a significant impact on the network.

In any case, a number of the releases have had improvements that I have appreciated even if not everything is apprpriate to the way I use LimeWire.

Well, I may be out of line, but my feelings on the subject anyway. I purchased the pro version simply to do away with the adds. The main objective here is simply to find and download free files, and unless the new features are going to make that easier then why worry about upgrades at all. You note I said easier, not find more files, since we all know that this is a shared effort, and if the file "ain't" there, if no one is sharing it, fancy features still won't net our booty. I doubt there is no way to make limewire much more effective at finding and downloading files, after all it simply is a portal into a shared medium. I would rather have more people sharing more files myself.

Among the new features that have been added since I took up LimeWire a short time ago:

1. Swarmed downloads. Downloading from multiple locations thus speeding up the download.

2. Ultrapeer functionality that reduces the bandwidth for a leaf allowing more/faster downloads and uploads and potentially providing a greater search horizon.

3. Communications improvements that will improve performance as more people use clients that support it.

4. Improved download performance that reduces/prevents downloads being blocked (frequently at 99% of download).

5. Corruption checking - essential for downloading programs.

6. Penalising freeloaders (encouraging more people to share files).

7. More frequent re-searches to find new file hosts to download from.

I think there may have been other improvements that reduce the number of restarts.

These changes seem to be directed at "making it easier to download files".

The introduction of Hashing (rumoured to be coming in 2.5) will also be a massive boost to the ease of downloading.

OK, while we are waiting for the requested LW "New Features" to arrive;

How's about LW providing at least BASIC information
as to what is NEW, IMPROVED or FIXED in all these version releases?

Is it an upgrade for ALL users; interface functions/cosmetics?
Is it an upgrade for the Mac platform, PC platform or both?
Is it an upgrade that will be an "impact on the network"?

As the LW "User Instructions" and "FAQ's" do not keep up with new version releases...
PLEASE, at least, give us VERSION UPGRADE INFO on our LW Pro download page
so that features ARE APPARENT and FEEDBACK CAN be sent to LW.

Treat, thank you for proving my point so well. I don't have to get every new release. There is no change log. There are lots of great features but I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THEM!!! Thus I won't get a new release. And like the other unregistered said, all those great features that require updated clients aren't going to be used, won't "improve the health of the network", blah, blah, blah.

(is it just me or is this argument getting repetative. i still haven't heard a good reason why there isn't a change log)

Maybe its because they don't want us to know what has been changed or "supposedly" fixed. Support is virtually non-existent.

Nothing personal against you Treatid, but most of the improvements that you listed still don't work as they were intended to work.

I could care less what it looks like, just so it works.

Its like we are being fed crumbs and are expected to follow. That only works for awhile and then the followers go in a different direction. If the current trend keeps up, LimeWire will end up as a thing of the past.

Au contraire, if you compare the development of gnutella with other p2p networks, gnutella clients are adding features faster than any other network.

The features listed by Treatid work as they were intended.
