Multiple host as option? Watching the speed increase when a download from multiple hosts begins is a real thrill, until you open the completed file. I have discovered that videos are often corrupted by this feature, and I would like to be able to turn it off. |
Hashing will (should) ensure that downloads are consistent - corrupt files will be recognised as different and won't be included in a swarm downloads even if they have the same name and size. There is also corrupt file detection in the current version - but it won't detect /all/ corruption. Mark |
You've misunderstood me slightly. I think the files were probably fine on the hosts' computers, but in my experience, "spidering" has corrupted two out of three downloaded vid files. Perhaps this is only coincidence. |
I agree that the swarming/spidering may introduce the corruption - but this is most likely due to slightly different versions on the various sources. Hashing should identify such problems and prevent them. Or it may be a bug... Or it may be coincidence... Hmm... I now agree with you, there isn't currently enough evidence to decide what this is - but it is worth watching. Mark |
