Angry Non limewire hosts

Having programmed in college some 20 years ago, it would seem very easy to filter out non limewire vendors. I mean hey, the vendor is listed on the connections tab! something like:

If
vendor = limewire XXXX
then connect
else
disconnect

Ok, that is just psuedo-code, but the idea is pretty basic

You receive the user agent identifier after having connected, - but it's not that hard anyway. Just some tiny changes to ManagedDownloader.java and there you are. - The question is, whether this will be so much of an improvement.

I've got to admit I was quite skeptic towards Gnucleus / Morpheus ultrapeers, but as it shows, they aren't as bad as you might think. Although I have the impression LimeWire ultrapeers are better Gnucleus/Morpheus ultrapeers work well enough.

Default morpheus sucks

I have noticed a serious lack of search results when I get stuck with Morpheus hosts, and there seems to be one hell of a lot of them, or maybe the morpheus programmers have stuck some kind of "attack" mode into their code which makes their system leech on like the bloodsuckers they are

bloodsuckers .... dude ... how is morpheus, or someone who uses morpheus, any different than the rest of the gnutella client users ... me included. If you've got a good explanation let me hear it ....

He's probably po'ed because he cant leach off of everyone like you could with the old Morpheus or current Kazza

Default Morpheus sucks

Strange that the number of Total Hosts drops dramatically when Morpheus is connected. At this moment, my stats show 28 Total Hosts...and the Connections show all four hosts as MorpheusOS 1.9.1.0 or Morpheus 1.8.2.0. When there are LimeWire ultrapeers I get a whole lot more hosts and hits. An hour ago, I had over 560 Total Hosts...and the connections showed some LimeWire ultrapeers. It does seem that the Morpheus ones eventually come to dominate all ultrapeer connections, and yet actually serve very few hosts. Why is this? Even "Taliban" (what a ***** alias that is) hasn't answered this one.

Default Here's the proof

A followup to my previous post. I just Removed the morpheus ultrapeers from my list of connections....this immediately causes the software to seek out new ultrapeers...it quickly connected to several LimeWire ultrapeers (versions 2.0.2 thru 2.4.4) and my Total Hosts quickly jumped from the 26-28 range under MorpheusOS ultrapeers to it's current reading at this very moment which is 531 and climbing....562......601.....642.....683....704... ..740.......761......825....still climbing....

You CANNOT argue with this. My suggestion is to monitor your connections and "Remove" them when you see MorpheusOS creep in there....now I'm at 956.......oops, $hit, there's a Morpheus....ooops now we're at 800.....Remove....ahhh, now we're back at 1,107 hosts.

Please, please, LimeWire, add an option to deny MorpheusOS....it's like an RIAA conspiracy or something... (now at 1,236 Total Hosts)

Morpheus breaks LimeWire's host count completely, you might even have more reachable hosts than with LimeWire ultrapeers but you will never know it, since Morpheus will block most of the Pong messages LimeWire needs to build up its hostcatcher and for the statistics recorder.

Regardless of what the stats say are the number of hosts connected, non-Limewire hosts seriously reduce the number of search hits. This is not merely anecdotal evidence, as a number of people have posted concerning the problem.

Unhappy Reluctant Agreement

I've got agree with everyone that has posted about the reduced number of search results with non limewire ultrapeer connections ... as much as it pains me ... at 2 AM ... while not being able to sleep.
