Hashing Why dosen't LimeWire hash shared files like the other Gnutella clients? Hashing allows users to verify that 2 files are the same. Limewire just "assumes" files are the same if they have the same name, but sometimes they are toally different files. Hashing prevents this, and is makes LimeWire more Gnutella friendly, as most other clients DO support hashing. |
ahem, LimeWire 2.5 does hash shared files, the beta has already been available for a while and I believe the final release will be within the next few days. |
then how comes that i have (with lw 2.5.3beta) in my incomplete folder the following:? samehash - Episode 4 (100Mb) samehash - Episode IV (94Mb) samehash - episode 4 (45Mb) :-) |
LimeWire Features 2.5 - (Release date: 07.16.02) New browse host feature--even works through firewalls Faster downloads: connects in parallel to several hosts Downloader checks for corrupt files by looking at overlapping regions Increased download swarming by using "alternate location" data Loads shared files much faster on startup (though the first time may be a little slow) Added Bitzi metadata lookup Connects to the network more robustly Throttles outgoing bandwidth for ultrapeers Full support for file hashes in queries and replies Maybe Mr. AlienPenguin hasnt got the newest version? |
