It's very easy to see what programs are running, even if they aren't shown in the systemtray. there is something called a taskmanager. (Ctrl+Alt+Del)

And if you are running on a schoolnet or something like that, I can asure you that they can see what programs are using up all of their quota

I would be eternly grateful if LimeWire got a password protection.

I want a password to be needed to not only open LimeWire, but also when it's minimized. In the bottem right corner.

Would it be possible to make the search function like google's where you can eliminate words in your search, like if you wanted a song and it has cover out and it is so popular you cant find the original, you could remove the newer artist from the search results.

See Search is too Specific (click on link) If the search length was increased, then it would result in more gnutella net traffic thus slowing it down, searches would time out with less results, searches would take longer but come back with probably less results, etc.

Alan18's suggestion is actually a popular idea. Suggested many times. Pity it hasn't arrived sooner.

Mune's idea sounds very interesting. From an initial on-face perspective it sounds like a great idea. I don't know how easy it would be to implement technically. I'd give that one a thumbs up IMHO.

Windows 2k/XP, OS X, Linux, etc. already provide reasonably enforced password mechanisms and access controls.

Lost passwords would be a customer support nightmare. With millions of users online at any given time, I'd guess that a few hundred per day would forget their passwords.

Without role-based security mechanisms provided by the OS (such as SELinux, TrustedBSD, or Trusted Solaris), LimeWire's passwords would be pathetic. Any passwords that can be set by the user can be reset or deleted by the user.

In short, passwords would be a pain for us, wouldn't provide any real protection for you, and your OS already gives you better password protection than we can provide. If you're running Windows XP, you can even log out from one account and log into another while leaving programs running in the first account.

We could have some crazy system where you'd create a password file as one user, and make it readable but not writeable by the user that runs LimeWire. However, this would be a pain, and if we're going to require multiple user accounts and proper ACLs, we might as well just have our users use the OS's password and access control mechanisms to limit who can use LimeWire.

1. Allowing of Nicknames in place of displaying no.s so that files from a common user can be easily pesonally identified.C'mon we all wanna be identified as unique??Don't we.Also this might not be as hard speaking technically.

2.An option that diplays the users logged in to Limewire belonging to the same city [on city basis, or local area] would be nice idea.Though i know this would be a tough one. But would also be quiet interesting if implemented.

And some of us, for some reasons, can't creat another user account.

But again, Just a suggestion. that mnay have made...

Trivial compared to "protecting the protection". It should be relatively easy to add a password protection but it would be equally easy to disable it. With easy I mean deleting the LimeWire settings directory (I hope kids don't read this thread). Even dumb kids know how to delete files and the smart ones will move the settings aside and move 'em back when you come home.

Maybe it's just for younger kids who don't have enough knowledge to do any of that. Just some light password to keep youngsters out!

OK i think that limewire should have an auto shutdown and an auto resorse finder becouse i leave my pc on and it download files and some of them keep on saying can't find the resourse i can't spell it but we need those things becouse i leave my pc on and i can't keep on saying find resource for the files so just make limewire shutdown the computer after it finishes and it will auto find the resource and for sure we need more speed for faster download
