Drive By Pop-Ups and other scams Dear cmcnulty I was unaware that *.wmv files could have hidden nasties in them but my main aim is not for LW to fix these files but to warn me about them. I will then decide whether to continue with the download or kill it. On a completely different subject, surfing the internet now seems to be an obstacle course filled with hidden dangers. Apart from viruses, Trojans, worms and port attacks now there are also browser hijackers, drive-by downloads, drive-by pop-ups and all manners of malicious software ready to catch and exploit the unwary or naive. Apart from protection software, anti-virus and firewalls, and well know utilities, such as Ad-aware and Spybot, what other apps or utilities do LW users use? UK Bob |

The single biggest thing you can do to protect yourself from all of the things you mentioned is to not use Internet Explorer to browse the web. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ is much better for browsing the web. It's faster and much safer. -Chuck |
