Smart Enough People to Manage Auto-Force Resume There's got to be someone smart enough to manage an auto-force resume feature without it slowing down and overloading the system! Searches could be staggered so not everybody is searching at one time. It might be awhile to get your turn, but at least it will be faster than the way it is now and relieve some time spent force resuming every few minutes. Then you could walk away (or get some sleep) and let it rip! How about it? |
I only just scouted this thread as I'm passing thru the sections. One problem I see with force resume is that it connects with the 1st available source, however good/bad/fast/slow/reliable/unreliable that source is. The advantage of other techniques such as searching for the sources 1st means that the file will with any luck voluntarily start dwnlding from the source with the most resources & with any luck fastest dwnld speeds. That's always the dwnside for the chance u take with auto search techniques that even if u do get a connection, it might not be as ideal as hoped & perhaps unreliable as well! If u have the sources available in the 1st place you've a better chance of getting a better dwnld. Sure, there's certain stages of LW that require personal supervision, but that's the sacrifice for ideal/optimum results at that particular moment. Yes u do need to help LW to make those decisions on occasions. With experience you'll learn exactly when LW requires some babysiting & other occasions when it just needs some overseeing, & those hrs when it can be reliably be left alone for hrs on end! |
Good Info Thanks for the info. I'll try your ideas. You seem to be a smart dude! |
I'm definitely not smart but I have used LW for a few yrs. The 1st version I had did have autosearch for all incomplete files. But I'm sure you've probably already read what problems that causes with overloading the Gnutella netwk as well as company networks with search requests. ie: it slows the network down for everybody incl. T1 users! We can be effective with the way we utilize LW w/o overloading any netwks. And that comes from learning from personal & others' experiences. Anyway good luck in whatever your quest is to find what u want!!! |
could you add to the preferences a stringency to the quality you would expect for the forced resume, say i only want two stars and/or a T1 connection? |
