Default Free vs. Pro

I'm sure we've all noticed the overall speed decrease in downloads from the Gnutella network lately. I realize LimeWire *isn't* Gnutella, but perhaps this feature change could be of some help.

I think the problem lies in many cases with new users severely restricting bandwidth or turning off uploads completely. For broadband users this is stupid, as u/l bandwidth doesn't affect d/l bandwidth - but good luck trying to get this message out to all the "Help! I'm clueless, how does this thingy work?" people.

Anyway, why not allow the u/l and bandwidth modification options in the pro version only? The hopelessly clueless aren't going to buy Pro anyway and those of us who do (and know better) can get back to the great share speeds we all enjoyed until fairly recently.

Wrong!!!

Limewire connects to Gnutella as all other clients on this side, that is the reason why this side is called GNUTELLAFORUMS...

No, no, I think he means that Limewire itself isn't Gnutella (as in "the network"). I think they know it connects to Gnutella.

I see no difference here. Limewire can´t be much faster than Gnutella, even they are preferring own nodes. Limewire is a part of Gnutella and have to share the same problems as other Gnutella clients.

Post More to say

I think it might be best to say that Limewire is one of many various client software packages that connects to the global public Gnutella network to share files.

I'm pretty sure that everyone in this link understands the differences already. But in case a newbie looks here, maybe that will help.

Exclamation On the ACTUAL topic now....

On the ACTUAL topic now....

I don't support removing the upload modification controls from the free version for many reasons.

1) It wont help. ISPs like mine already restrict upload as they choose. Limewire settings will not give bandwidth that has already been choked.

2) It will discourage users from wanting to use limewire since there would then realize less options for them to control, while other competitors' client software can give it to them for free already.

3) It would sully the Limewire reputation to some degree, giving technical and filesharing forums, as well as opponents, an additional reason to gripe about Limewire, perhaps causing it trouble in reviews or popularity, which would likely lead to negative opinions, and less sales of PRO for the actual company. (They would want to be seen as 'good guys' since there are so many choices in this market already. I believe a lot of their sales come off of reputation and users loving the free version first.)

Feel free to disagree... These are just my initial thoughts on the topic. But I admire anyone who takes the time and thought to share their opinion of a new feature, such has been done here. Because thats how we end up with many good and new ideas that actually can become reality. So Thanks for being willing to make a suggestion.

i have been using limewire since the days of the first beta and the early days of gnutella network shortly after napster hit all the problems...

well, off to the point... it has improved over the years, and the curent limewire is impressive, making gradual changes

but the thing is, there isnt much difference in operational speed and download speed between the pro and normal versions... even if there was, simple configuration could help it out, or even downloading software like LWspeedup brings the download to turbocharged all the time while its running in the background...

so, as a user of lw pro, shouldnt there be more goodies in for us, not only 'turbocharged' downloads?

im not tryin 2 b arrogant or make a statement, but the grass seemed greener b4 i had lw pro which could just b achieved with the gnutella speedup proggies...

im merely thinkin out aloud...

Hmm, I'm wondering how "official" this LWspeedup thingy is...
