There needs to be an "Advanced" mode in limewire that allows for more user control over the program and the interface.

Example:

1. User can disable "Community Tab" if he wants.
2. User can enter his own value for Connection Speed... not just the presets.
3. User can decide how many connections to have without Lime telling him it's too many for his connection speed.
4. User can decide maximum upload bandwidth as a descrete value and not as a slider percentage of one of the preset speeds.

These don't have to available by default... put a checkbox somewhere with a warning saying "Advanced users only! Checking this box may significantly reduce your performance!" And checking this either switches to "Advanced mode" or it lets the user pick and chose the features he wants, etc.

Also, why is it that when I click on someone who's downloading from me at 0.0KBps to disconnect him... I have to RACE to the kill button before he is unhighlighted automatically after a half a second?! This is just bizarre.

And why can't I filter modem users and firewalled users out of my search results? What if I want to share my files with all comers, but I don't want to download from some Grandma at 300bps!?

This is a feature that inhibits people from killing their uploads (since 1.5). This increases the success percentile of uploads, making the Gnutella network more robust and reliable. In your case, it may be annoying if the user is taking years to download a file, but overall, it helps everyone out. This same feature may make someone think twice about killing your download.

You may not be able to filter the search results by connection, but many people put down false speed connections anyways. Some DSL users may say they are a modem user to avoid people downloading stuff from them (not exactly nice, but it happens). If you want to sort the results, double-click on the "speed" button. This sorts the connections. Double-clicking again will sort them backwards. I have attached a small picture that shows exactly where to click on the "Search" tab.

One problem I have is getting out of the program. Since it degrades browsing performance (not to mention gaming), I'd like to get out [a] when all my downloads are complete (which I CAN tell) and [b] when all of my allowed uploads are done (which I can't, really).

I feel guilty cutting everyone off, but that's the way it works. I tried limiting my upload slots from 6 to 5 to 4 etc. as I saw an upload complete, but this did NOT work. With four uploads (and 3 per user max), I would see more than four different files uploading as they flashed by.

And here's a kicker: After disconnecting from the network, uploads would continue. The Disconnect button needs a popup window with four buttons: Immediately (kill current DLs/ULs), Completed Downloads (see below), Completed Transfers (ditto), and Cancel. That should cover all bases.

The second option is obvious in its functionality and could use a feature of the third: No new uploads are allowed after this point. The outgoing pipe would "shrink" until the final upload finished. The reason this would not necessarily be used on the second option is you might have a lot of downloads pending and you'd end up not sharing waiting for them to finish (effectively freeloading).

The could also be a check box that quits the program after the successful Disconnect. And play a tone, so I could hear it from another room.

It's easy to tell LimeWire to continue its current uploads and not accept any new ones. Under Tools > Options, on the Uploads tab, put the max number of uploads to 0. LimeWire will let the currently runninng ones finish, but will not start any new ones. But unfortunately, there's no feature that will close it when it is done. Does minimizing to the system tray speed up your computer at all?
