a way to vote a file good or bad It would be nice if you could vote a file good or bad and then be able to see that info before downloading it. You'd be able to see what other users who have downloaded the file thought about it. It could be in the window that pops up when you hold your mouse over a file you have searched for. It could say something like "34 good 02 bad" This would keep people from wasting their time with corrupted files or files that say they are one thing but are actually another. Thanks. |
You is talkin' about Bitzi Do, do, do... have a click on Bitzi - Check Files Before Download ! You will find it in my sig below... Install it on your machine as well as using it as it is bundled with some of the better Gnutella Network clients ! ;) |
ok, tried bitzi but it doesn't have information on any of the new files, or on most of the files I've tried so far. What I was talking about was a limewire feature, built into limewire, that users can report one of two things, either good or bad, and the info would be stored on limewire and automatically displayed with the file when you run a search. I know it doesn't have it yet, but this is the feature request part, so I am just requesting that it be considered. I downloaded bitzi, and all that seems to do is tell me about the files I already have on my comp. I already know what those files are like, if they were bad they got trashed. And when you run in by right clicking an item that came up in the search, like I said, it's almost never in the database. |
Ah... The relevant info on a new file was not yet included in the Bitzi database, huh ? Well, that is because nobody has yet seen fit to do their part of maintaining the Bitzi 'system'. The obvious next question is simple... If something as well-regarded and 'old' as Bitzi is not being maintained adequately or quickly enough, WHAT great force is going to make an in-house LW system any better ? It all depends on the integrity of us users, what ? Support Bitzi before trying to launch another attempt seems to be more practical, no ? There was a purpose in my mentioning 'installing' Bitzi... ;) |
OH yeah! I just figured that out, downloaded BC and put in comments on my two good movie downloads. One of them had no previous rating....I am so proud of myself. :) So attention all newbies, (and I am one), download BC and start sending in your comments for your downloads and we all win! |
yes bitzi is cool to tag big files like movies, but for small files such as mp3 and documents, a rating system built-in à la shareaza would be nice to help filter crap. Anyway that's something in the TODO list of LW :) Ciao |
I agree with Zelch The protocol needs to be expanded to support "scorecarding" each file. This has many benefits, from decreasing network bandwidth downloading corrupt/bad files, to finding the right file the first time. Users should be able to rate individual files as "good" or "bad"; or perhaps have a graduated scale. That information would then be propogated with the other existing file information. |
