New Feature Requests Your idea for a cool new feature. Or, a LimeWire annoyance that has to get changed. |

Make upgrade Mandatory Not sure if it would help network stability or even speed, by why not make a feature that automatically upgrades the limewire version, that is only for those who currently have a older version. Ive noticed that alot of users who download off me have real old versions, not to mention some of the ultra peers i connect to have old versions. Just a thought. |

Mandatory Upgrades Stevieb Not a good idea, most windows apps require more disk space and more processor power with every upgrade, that means that unless you had a modern PC your machine would eventually start to slow down. Unless LW folks are working on making the software smaller and more efficient, i.e. using less CPU power, then users would be forced into upgrading their PCs every few years just to keep up. UK Bob PS. However, security upgrades should be mandatory. |

Newer programs bring more efficiency, or atleast that's why we have newer updates/patches, etc. One key example I can note is of one ultra peer who had version 4.0.1 , this is quite an old version and should be upgraded. I completely agree with the security updates, although I disagree with the efficiency notion. Even though i havent been using limewire for the longest time, I did upgrade and such, and did happen to notice the simple trend that higher versions didnt necisarily slow down the machine more and more, it was infact the amount of files; which has been stated through out these forums numerous times. This brings the question why does Limewire update there program as often as they do if it doesnt help the program. |

Efficiency Stevieb I think you are confusing "efficiency" with more facilities. I also agree that most windows apps upgrades give more facilities to the app concerned, as well as bug fixes and fine tuning. However, all these extras require more disk space and more processing power. Plus, as you may or may not know, most of the coding for the previous version of the app is left in the new version. That's why most windows apps require more CPU power, i.e. because the CPU has to plow through old coding to get to the relevant new code. The rational behind this is that programmers time is more costly than either RAM memory or HD space. Therefore, windows programmers, on the whole, do not strip out the old redundant coding for new versions of their apps. However, that is not to say that all windows programmers and software companies adopt the same policy because there are some tight and neatly written windows apps that don't demand a lot of PC resources. But in the main, windows apps get bigger and more resource intensive with every new version. UK Bob |

I think Bloat (click on link) is one of those issues about updates/upgrades that makes a point about is it really necessary & what's with the larger size. But that article is in reference to M$ & does not apply to LW where there's obvious improvements being made to both the G network & the program. |
