BeerBottleBill While I agree with your stand on this subject, I also agree with lassie's point of view, dodgy moral crusades have a way of backfiring. For example, you have shown in your post that your have downloaded an episode of "The Simpsons", which you know is illegal, yet the “so-called” KP files you have highlighted maybe fake files and, as such, not illegal. You should think long and hard before you start publicising your “good cause” because, as I currently see it, you have just invited the MPAA to come knocking on your door. UK Bob |

There isn't any copyright certificate on that Simpsons episode anyway you can copy TV shows using a VCR, DVD recorder etc. etc. as long as you do not sell it is ok and anyway BOB isn't everything even music on here technically copywritten |

Bill It doesn’t matter if there is a copyright certificate or not on that particular episode of The Simpsons, this is a "copyright" product and you can be prosecuted and/or sued for taking part in downloading and distributing it. And yes, you can copy TV programmes onto video and/or DVD as long as you do not distribute or sell them, i.e. the copies must be for your own use. However, you would get short shrift from any judge if you compared what you are doing with “recording from a TV”. Though it can be said that many people do use the P2P network to distribute copyright material you will find that those that are caught by the RIAA or MPAA are heavily fined. You, in your zealousness, have put your head above the water as one who readily takes part in cheating copyright holders out of their money and, quite frankly, you have no defence. Saying that “everyone is doing it” or “I didn’t know” will not help you if you get that “certain” letter in your mailbox or knock on your door and will certainly not help you in court. Always remember, distributing copyright material, whether by P2P-ing, handing out videos or DVDs, without any recompense to the copyright owners, is illegal and you can be prosecuted for it. Finally, there is more than enough legally distributed non-copyright material to keep many people, such as myself, very happy. I would suggest, for the future, you leave the copyrighted stuff alone. Seems to me everything on here is pretty much copywritten with a few exceptions of personal pictures and some documents like text files etc. etc. I am not trying to defend myself Bob I still purchase music and movies and P2P programs have actually made me want to go out and buy more movies and music |

glory_dance As a father myself, there is no way I would argue for copyright over children’s safety. But I'm with Lassie on not starting a "dodgy moral crusade" based on what could be mislabelled or fake files, and as a P2P user you know that there are plenty of those around. By all means, where you find someone potentially distributing KP then report it, the authorities will act to catch these scumbags, but in the meantime don’t inadvertently set yourself up. UK Bob |
