Default Transferring music

I am a new Lime Wire user. I already had a large library of music when I subscribed. Is there a way to transfer that previous library to the Lime Wire library? Also, is there a way to organize my Lime Wire music other than by artist.

I would strongly advise using a separate player, which is also capable of sorting your music. iTunes does this well for me, but I gather WinAmp is another good application as are others. iTunes will sort by Song title, artist, album, bit rate, file size etc etc, and you can make any sort of playlists you like as well.

The Limewire player is not very versatile, and using it can cause big problems if you inadvertantly select delete in Limewires Library which will delete files from your hard drive with out going to the recycle bin/trash.

The Limewire player can be dissabled in Limewire preferences > player.

Your existing library can be added to your shared files, if you wish, by going to Limewire preferences > sharing> shared folders where you can add folders of your choice. These files will be visible in the Limewire Library, and if you chose, can be played with the Limewire player. . In the Limewire Library, however you cannot do much sorting as you have discovered.

I hope this helps, let us know if you want more help.

iTunes is free for Windows and Mac at http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Thumbs up transfer

hey jimmyboro,
i am also a new user of the "sublime lime". if you have music already, then it's in folders. you just need to move the folder or folders to "shared" folder. i have "ripped" alot of music into my computer, and have learned alot about moving it around. as simplified as this sounds i'm not a geek, so it took me a bit longer than some. i started putting individual albums into the lime. i went back and removed all, and re-installed all of my library. 11,000+, all at once. e-m if you'd like.

For Sharing new folders (just some image samples to back up what Only A Hobo said) 1. See How to Share Folders (click on link), & also 2. Advanced Share options

As OAH suggested, iTunes is a great way to organise your shared music. See Albumwrap/iTunes for such an example. However if arranging by artist isn't what you're after, then you can arrange them alphabetically by song instead. Or if you use iTunes you can arrange them as compilations.

Thumbs up easy enough to transfer!

i read one of the links from "l.o.t.r." i was surprised to find someone had difficulty transferring folders. i have done it both ways. first time i put albums into "shared" folder, then allowed share in lime. next time i added all in my music folder. (in "add" it doesn't allow you to browse. my music is sub-categorized, so all or nothing. either way was easy enough for a non-geek <48 hours on the lime. i did try to move my music around in the lime, turned out not to be a good idea. as long as it is organized in the folders, (or whichever music format you use) it will be on transfer. my lime library is still sub-categorized.

ie: my music\christmas music\celine dion\these are special times\01 o holy night

ie: my music\rock music\cher\essential collection\01 all i really want to do

i have been using realplayer for some time. i find it to be the easiest general purpose music player/burner/organizer. i also have itunes, rhapsody, and windows media player. as with any "player" you have to put all the "right info" in, in order to move good info around.
