But you can already share sub-folders. And then choose which sub-folders or files you don't wish to share from it. Though if you add new sub-folders, you'd need to refresh your shares from the Library.

I would also like to see a wider speed control for different connection settings. I find myself stuck between modem & cable despite using broadband in order to cater for my upload speed.

I won't comment upon the search suggestions. Though you do have a junk filter for true junk spam. I'm not sure I understand point 1 of search phrases.

there is an option for phrases to exclude in search, but it's in settings, where I feel it should be in the search form.

Are you referring to Text Autocomplete? (if yes you already have a drop-down above the search box option of clearing history or using one of the previous similar searches option.)

exclude is not autocomplete, it pevents results that match your search keywords, but also has keywords you don't want. there is a permenent exclude list in options I use it for "incompleate" "preview" "unfinished".
Adding an "exclude from this search only" option would allow you to eliminate results if there are multiple versions of the item searched produced in different years or by different performers.
