plz turn off minimal upload bandwith (seriously) THE PROBLEM:
My internet connection is an ADSL (the 'A' stands for Assymetric right?), the speed is 256/128 kbits/s (in paper). In real life I'm limited to 27/12 kbytes/sec.
LimeWire 2.0 has no obvious way to fine-tune the bandwith, so I choose Cable/DSL.
Under cable/dsl Limewire ASSUMES I have much more uploading power than I really have, and the minimal upload bandwidth I can pick is 10 kbytes/sec! That causes my download performance to go ****ed up (I dont know why, is ADSL half-duplex?). It is just too much for my small pipe.
THE SOLUTION ?
In previous versions I would set the limit at 7 kbytes/sec and everything worked just fine. Now I'm facing the option of disabling all uploads because they are too brutal on my cheap connection. (I preferred not to do this)
I believe it would nice to have 'Advanced' preferences, where I could fine-tune the bandwith limits.
The 'Advanced' preferences should be intimidating enough to newbie users, so they would stick to the 'basic' configuration and not set their limits to 1 kbyte per second (therefore reducing freeloading) |
