New Function For Sharing Allowances

I looked over the previous feature requests and didn't see any that matched my request. Maybe I missed something. I saw similar requests.

Anyway, basically I get kind of annoyed that I can't browse the host of many uploaders who upload files from me because they don't allow browse host. I would like a function that will block uploads from users who don't allow "Browse Host". I feel kind of like a jerk for this requests because normally I'm easy going type of person. Not completely sure why this annoys me but it does.

You know, people like yourself believe that if you can't "browse a host" then that host is not sharing their files, nothing can be further from the truth.

Many junior members have written in this forum saying "as a host can't be browsed therefore it is not sharing", I can only assume they have come to this mistaken belief based only on a "feeling". Simply because they have not read any article, knowledge base or user guide that has made such a claim.

Most senior/knowledgable LW users know that their can be quite a few reasons why a host cannot be browsed but still share their files, for example I have a firewall which, I understand, prevents my shared files from being browsed. Yet, without a doubt, other P2P users such as LW, Morpheus, Sharaza, Phex, etc. can download files from my PC.

I think your annoyance is based on lack of research, therefore it is always best to debate your idea first before making such requests.

Firm!

I also want a option to disable users from getting files from me if THEY do not allow me to browse their files while they are getting file from ME.

If USERS that want files from me do NOT allow me to browse their files then I don't want them to get files from me!
I don't even see where to turn the browse host option OFF on the version of Limewire I have.
Right now I am limiting getting files from me by hand one at a time! If the browse host button doesn't highlight in Monitor, Queued, I Kill the upload!:nono:

Browsing Hosts

Ddwaner

I presume that because your files can be readily browsed that you don't have a firewall and, as such, you expect every P2P user to do away with their firewalls as well.

This is all well and good if all you use your computer for is to play games and run your P2P apps. You don't mind if your PC is hacked, virus and worm infected or that the criminal gangs on the Internet turn your PC into a botnet and make it part of their criminal activities, e.g. DOS attacks, distribute illegal porn, etc. Worse still, plant spyware on your PC in an effort to steal your bank account and credit card details.

After all, because you don't have anything on your PC worth stealing then that's why you don't need a firewall.

You know, it's a pity that the rest of us can't be as care free as you are.

Nope

If You don't want to share, then "I" don't want to share. Easy enough...:nono:

Maybe....

My version of Limewire needs a Nice Big option to disallow ANYONE to Browse my shared file list.
(I haven't found that anywhere in the program I have.)

I would rather have a option to disallow any transfer to someone that doesn't allow their shared file list to be viewed by someone they are getting (or wanting to get) a file or files from!

Ddwaner

Sorry man but you have missed the point, just because I cannot be browsed that does not mean that I am not sharing.

Time after time, I have said in this forum that I have seen people, by their IP addresses and P2P app that they use (such as LW, Morpheus, Phex, Frostwire, etc.) downloading files from my PC. I have seen this by looking at the "Monitoring Screen" when LW is in action.

So, you have made two misinterpretations:-

a) Just because you can't browse somebody that does not mean they are not sharing because how could you then download from them as others have downloaded from me.

b) Some of us do more important things with our PCs than just use Limewire and so need our protective software, e.g. Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, etc.

Finally, your main mistake is that you have made an assumption based a misinterpretation of what you have seen, rather than what you have read about Limewire or what an experienced user has told you.

PS. I dislike freeloaders as much as you do but hate being called one just because I cannot be browsed.

PPS. At the moment, Limewire cannot technically identify freeloaders.

ddwanker, You act like these files are yours. You basicly stole them, since they are Illegal Copyrighted Files. Are you related to RP Fizzle Minizzle Bizzle. He found the ROCK that he came out from under, now it's your turn. I don't think Anybody really Cares if you Kill every host that you think is not sharing. Great, Fantastic, Dat A Boy...Good for you. Now Say Good Buy. :toilet:

ddwaner December 31st, 2007 09:14 PM

My Computer

Files are on My machine, running on my electric, on my internet drop. The ones look like all the other ones and the zero's are the same way.
Stolen????, nothing was removed or is missing.
The only thing I am suggesting that they are NOT shareing is their file list, OK, if they don't what to share their file list with me then I don't want to share my file list with them. No problem.:cantseeyou:Easy solution, TURN IT OFF!

Just because BROWSE HOST is not allowed, doesn't mean that a search would not find a shared file of interest for transfer.

Gday DD
after posting a simple question just as you have done here mate, and now reading some of the replys, its bloody obvious you wont get a simple answer in here. It seems the place is full of wannabe experts that can't answer the simple questions but would rather hide behind their PCs printing arrogant attitudes instead of just an answer. I doubt many would be brave enough to step out of the box they exist in to confront a real person with their pathetic attempts at put downs, and they wonder why "chat sites" are monitored by the police. Give it up DD, you wont get answers just stupid questions and gutless comments from the likes of UK & rimroc
I wonder if their mum knows they are on her PC doin this???

Problems

I started seeing problems with NEW VERSIONS of Limewire when I set Limewire to "DO NOTHING" in the Limewire Firewall Router advanced setup and I shut the program down and started it back up and it punched itself into the Windows XP Firewall for full Internet access even when I turned the XP firewall UPnP Framework OFF. I tried setting Limewire in the Windows XP firewall to "only selected IP's" and when I start Limewire up it punches itself into FULL INTERNET ACCESS on the firewall.
Sooooo,,,,
I removed Limewire from my XP Pro machine and set up a NT4/500, the old computer runs with just a minimum of hardware and programs that support the use of Limewire (the computer doesn't even have the sound card configured). I don't run Limewire on a computer that accesses my bank account (just doesn't seem like a good Idea).:idea:I have future plans to switch the same computer that is running NT4/500 to a "Free" Linux operating system.

For now... the old NT4/500 will return Browse Host information.

I agree. I mean if people are gonna download from us and browse us. We should be able to vise versa

Is it possible for the person who you are downloading from, to know if people are currently downloading their files (does that make sense LOL).

I get soooooooo many interruptions (I presume because the other user has logged off) and it would make it much better if they could wait until the file downloaded or a message to tell them that someone wishes to download one of their files?

Some files are huge so this may take some time but even if it 'saved' as it does now.

I know other users won't care if they switch off midway but i know I personally would leave my machine on until the other person's download was complete.
