Question A real music player

How come LimeWire doesn't come with an inherent library data structure like iTunes? I.e. I wish I could access my music collection directly from LimeWire and create playlists. It would be great if playlist creation can be done within the single application without opening any folders?

There is a clear business reason for this feature. Consider that LimeWire has been downloaded about 70 million times? That's a huge 'market share' (if you will). Why end the typical user-experience at just downloading? Right now, it appears that the average user downloads a set of desired songs, shuts down LimeWire and fires up iTunes to listen to the songs and engage in all the other iTunes interactions that are commercially benefiting Apple. Imagine what leverage LimeWire could have by offering even just a slightly more advanced player (e.g. library support) and keeping users. In fact, this would be something to particularly consider after the Orchard deal if it was ignored in earlier versions.

You're asking the wrong people. If you want to reach Limewire developers, you should try their site. I believe they monitor their beta forum.

There are many people who refuse to buy Apple products. Perhaps the developers are among them.

You should follow the suggestions from Birdy, as you'll not find anyone here with more knowledge.

The LW Media player was designed by a LW contributor, not one of their programming staff. Along the way they've simply made some small updates to it. Interesting suggestion though, a better media player would be good. However as it is, since LW is programmed in mostly Java which is not memory efficient & the media player often suffers when the program is busy downloading & uploading. Adding more features to the media player may make LW more demanding on people's computers cpu & ram, or/& make the program itself suffer such as with freezes. Obviously the design of LW's media player is very basic at present.

I have 2GB of RAM and don't seem to see a memory problem (yet). Maybe it's because I don't really do uploading and downloading while playing. By the way, if I was to spend time using eclipse to make some improvements on the media player, how would I go about widely publicizing/sharing my improvements and new features to other users. To illustrate, how did this LW contributor that incorporated the media player get his contribution embedded in the presumably open source download. Sorry I am new but I really want to incorporate some cool ideas I have.
