Here are a few things that you can try.
IMO, there are only Two Types of Files that are Relatively Safe to download from the Gnutella Network.
These would be mp3's and AVI's.
Any Program, Game, Zip or Rar Files along with WMA's and maybe ?? .Mov files are Extremly Dangerous.
When I was using LW I actually Filtered these File Extensions. .wma, .exe, .rar, .html, .com, .zip, and .mov, Just to be as safe as possible.
You also need to become very familiar with Bitzi when downloading Video Files off of the Gnutella Network. Instruction below.
After you have completed your search, Right click on the file that you're interested in. Now go to Advanced > Lookup File With Bitzi. Left click on that and a new browser window will open which is Bitzi. Now you will see how other members have rated this file. If you see something like "Bitprint not found" then Leave it alone. Its probably a Fake or Corrupt File. If it has been Rated then you can read what or how the members feel about the file.
Make sure You Scan EVERY File with your AV Program Before Opening.
Hope this Helps. |
