Hey, I like the new Limewire 5 and I'm really waiting for it to be a bit more reliable. I'm finding with mine that the downloads are freezing after a while and staying at a constant kb/s download speed, but not actually downloading anything, even if it's been doing for 10 minutes. I also find when I quit Limewire sometimes that Limewire doesn't fully close, and it still shows as open in my dock (I'm using 10.5 Leopard) and shows up when I press command-tab. I also find that it freezes sometimes when I go and click on a drop down menu, near the start-up of Limewire. I would really like all this to be fixed, until I can fully use it again. Also would love lots of search results, I do a lot of searching, but I find I can find better results off other P2P clients, but they're not as reliable and as user friendly as I find Limewire to be. Please fix all this!!!

I have the same issues as you (also using Limewire 5 on 10.5 Leopard);
Limewire freezes, says there is no connection to the Internet (is there no "connect/disconnect" button like there used to be?) does not shut down fully and is still indicated as open on my dock, (even using Force Quit, I sometimes have to Restart my computer to get things going again!)...also, what I find really annoying is that after downloading a file nearly to the end it suddenly says "Corrupt file" and no other option but to "Remove" - if I search for the same file using Limewire 4 on my older Mac, the file downloads no problem no indication of being corrupt! What can I do to continue downloading anyway?
Also, once I shut down and open again without having removed the "Corrupt file" it then says "There is a disk problem" instead. Weird!
Any suggestion on how to debug this are REALLY APPRECIATED!!!

I've found logging out is a much quicker way to make it disappear from the dock. I've also had the corrupt file problem before, it really sucks

I had the corrupt file equivalent whilst using Windows XP on my mac. LW 5 renames the file corrupt. You could try the advice I suggested to pfolk07 here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tml#post340883 You might want to try repairing permissions also unless you are in the habit of doing it frequently; SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions. If you're using the old LW 4 preferences, you might consider making a backup of it, then deleting it whilst LW is closed. See if that helps things; Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX.

My Mac (Leopard 10.5.6) is brand new and there are no LW4 old preferences since LW 4 was never on it. Also, since it's new, I doubt it needs any permissions repairing although I wouldn't mind trying that if I knew which is my start up disc (the one that says "Macintosh HD" or the one that says "149 GB Fujitsu...." clueless sorry. ;-(

You can only repair permissions on your start up drive. The option for Repair Permission will not show on a drive that does not have an OSX system folder on it.

huh? does that mean that if it gives me the option to repair, I am on the start up drive?

Repair permissions, not repair disk. See the link I gave above which has links to apple's instructions.

Yeah, I read the instructions. but its the permissions of the disk. What I mean is, when you go to the freakin' disk utility, and click on "First Aid" you have to select a drive to "verify/repair disk permissions". I'm not clear on which one to select as I don't know what is meant by <I>start up disk</i>
Plus I ran "verify permissions" as per the instructions and there seems to be no issue whatsoever.
I have also decreased my shared library massively and am downloading one file at a time. If I do this, no freeze.

Repair permissions will 'ONLY' show for the system drive. Repair permissions option will not show for a non-system drive.



Unfortunately LW 5 does not handle large quantities of shares & large amounts of incomplete files very well at all. Using old LW preferences might also slow it down. BTW when you Cancel a download file in LW 5 from the Download window, it also deletes the incomplete file. That process it quite different to LW 4. Sharing lots of images & music seem to be the two media types that slow it down the most compared to LW 4 from my experience. Your shares are found in the P2P Network window. If the files are not seen in there, then they are not being shared. Unless of course you are using the private 'Share with Friends' share option, which I haven't tried as of yet. Then those shared files will be in that window I guess.
