Do I have to get IE 5.0?

In the FAQ's, it says if I get a particular error message, then I need to get Internet Explorer 5.0 becuase other browsers don't support the particular files or whatever. I don't want to have to download an 8 meg browser which I hate when I'm perfectly happy with Communicator. So, is there no other way to solve this problem or have I reached a dead end with this program?
